The prescription for the residents of Port Charles, NY, is the love of power -- and the power of love. As their daily lives unfold amidst a backdrop of murder, mob wars, and mansions, the towering face of General Hospital is a constant. It's the town's common arena, and links the Quartermaine, Spencer, and Corinthos families together.![]()

John's just a regular guy: He grew up a Midwestern boy, and he met wife Vicki -- a casting director -- at work, on the set of "Chattanooga Choo Choo." He likes to putter around in the garden, golf, and hang out with Vicki and their daughter, Schyler.
A daytime regular, John's played Mac Scorpio on "General Hospital" as well as on spin-offs "Port Charles" and "General Hospital: Night Shift." He started working in TV in the early '80s and quickly branched into film with roles in such features as sports biopic "The Bear" and horror flick "Night of the Creeps." In 1987, he landed the lead on a short-lived series called "Werewolf"; the show didn't last, but his career kept right on going. John scored the role of Mac in 1991 -- that's kept him pretty busy, but he's since made guest appearances on "Clueless," "Veronica Mars," and "My Wife and Kids," among others. He was also in the 2004 thriller "The Eavesdropper" with George Takei of "Heroes."
After John got cast on "GH," he was so worried he wouldn't last that he held onto his job waiting tables at the Cheesecake Factory for a while.
