In a word: Seeking closure for her brother's death, Erica potentially alters the course of history and threatens her relationship with Dr. Tom.

The Action: Erica is living the dream. As the newly promoted Junior Editor, she's charged with training Julianne's new assistant who effusively praises Erica as the company's rising star. At lunch with Ethan, Erica navigates the reality of dating your former best friend. In a word, it's awkward. But exciting. He suggests they take a weekend trip, and she consents despite the fact that it's the anniversary of her brother Leo's death.

Waking up in a solemn mood, Erica looks longingly at a photo of Leo, clearly not ready for any fun boyfriend getaway weekend. While loading the car, she confesses to Ethan about Leo's death and he insists that she be with her family. She argues, saying that her family's mourning process is repressed and she wants to enjoy her life, her new promotion, and their burgeoning relationship. Ethan suggests that she could make this year different and drives her up to the farmhouse where her family observes Leo's death.

At the farmhouse with her parents (Barb and Gary) and sister (Sam), Erica suggests that they try something different this year and rebuild the barn in Leo's memory. They wander out to the rubble left from the fire that burned it to the ground. While sorting the mess, Barb discovers a cigarette case that her father had given to Leo. In tears, she rushes into the house insisting that she can't handle Erica's new way of processing Leo's death.
