The latest Soap Nation contest has closed, the votes have been tallied, and the winner has been chosen. Yes, the Single Best Town in America is officially ... Three Lakes, Wisconsin!
Thanks to YOUR votes, Three Lakes has won a fabulous block party from ABC Daytime and SOAPnet -- featuring great food, a performance by Love and Theft, and appearances by several of your favorite ABC Daytime stars.
Three Lakes, located in northern Wisconsin, got its unique name from a group of railroad surveyors who kept running into bodies of water as they tried to run a train line through the local highlands. The area has the largest inland chain of lakes in the world -- and is known as a hub of outdoor activities. Hikes through Nicolet National Forest, snowmobiling in the winter, and the Three Lakes Historical Society Museum (which features the 100-year-old Johnson House as well as replica '30s-era Civilian Conservation Corps [CCC] barracks) are just some of the local attractions that bring vacationers from all over the area.
Janet, the Three Lakes resident who submitted her town for the contest, said it best: "Three Lakes is a place of what matters most: time with family and friends, celebration of the arts, endless opportunity for outdoor fun, and the simplest of times."
Congratulations, Three Lakes! We'll see you soon for your Single Best Town block party!
