If we lived on Wisteria Lane, sure -- we’d be a little sad that Edie (Nicolette Sheridan) passed on. But mostly? We’d be relieved that the threat of fire, murder, and man-swiping was greatly diminished as a result.

…And then, apparently, we’d receive instant karmic retribution for even pondering such a thought when word arrived that a friggin’ Soprano was moving in.

Yes, Emmy award winner Drea de Matteo (best-known as “Sopranos” character Adriana La Cerva) is joining the cast of "Desperate Housewives" as a series regular this fall. She'll play the matriarch of an Italian (what a stretch right?) family that moves to the neighborhood. According to Entertainment Weekly, casting is still underway for her landscaper husband and tightly wound son (really, is there any other kind of anyone living on Wisteria?).

De Matteo played Adriana for five years on "The Sopranos" before she got whacked on orders from Tony himself. Guess the mob don't take kindly to FBI informants. She then moved on to the "Friends" spin off "Joey" where she played Matt LeBlanc's sister for two years before that show got whacked by NBC. Guess audiences didn’t take too kindly to a half an hour of “How YOU doin?”

How will the Wisteria residents react to this new neighbor?
