Soaps Recognized for GLAAD Media Awards

Bianca Montgomery, Eden Riegel, Tamara Braun, All My ChildrenThe nominees for the 21st annual GLAAD Media Awards have been announced, and among the movies, primetime TV, and journalists recognized, GLAAD recognized four daytime dramas for their commitment to responsible gay and lesbian storylines. Those four nominated shows were All My Children, As the World Turns, Guiding Light, and One Life to Live.

AMC, you'll recall, had the storyline of Bianca and Reese in the early part of the year, which featured the first ever gay wedding in daytime. As the World Turns and Guiding Light both featured popular couples Noah and Luke, and Olivia and Natalia, respectively. And OLTL not only featured Oliver Fish coming out, plus his subsequent relationship with Kyle, but also Dorian's politically-charged advocacy for gay marriage.

The GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies will be held in New York on March 13th at the Marriott Marquis; in Los Angeles on April 17th at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza; and in San Francisco on June 5th at The Westin St. Francis.

If only one can win, I think it should be OLTL. The AMC relationship was well done, even leading up to and including the wedding. But then....they took them out of the every day story line, completely off the screen! But, the Oliver/Kyle story has been well played by both, and continues to go on. I even see an "Oliver Twist" that may come from them. Maybe, Kyle is going to get after Oliver to get his rights to his baby. Then, the 2 may go for adopting to get the baby away from Stacy. I would love to see them get that baby, while Stacy is picking people like ker friend Kim to have the baby should anything happen to her. Oh PLEEEASE!

ITA that the Bianca/Reese wedding was important, and I like Tamara Braun, and I think she had good chemistry with both Eden Riegel and Thorsten Kaye. The overall story of Reese's coming out? Not so much. Much prefer the Olliver/Kyle story or Olivia/Natalia. Kudos to all, and isn't it something that we have four choices? Whoda thunk it?

How many are going to win, just 1?
If so, I hope All My Children wins, that is my FAVE soap.
If more than 1 wins, I hope All My Children & One Life to Live win because they're my favorites in that group. The other ones I don't watch.

ABC should be proud of the nominations... Any network that sticks to their guns in the face of such a vocal opposition from a small minority (most of whom do not even watch the shows- just mouthpieces for a narrow-minded group poised to limit our choices for diverse storylines) deserves to be applauded. While some viewers may have had an initial negative reaction to the storylines, the vast majority of fans welcome the inclusion of Gays and Lesbians in accurate representations in our soap communities. Well done and Congratulations , ABC!!!

I Like Erika, But Can't She Find Someone Her Own Age On The Show In Place Of Ryan?

Given all the physical contact between Binx and Reese, I guess GLAAD had no choice but to give the show a nomination. Also, the wedding ceremony was well done and TB's portrayal was as good as it could be what with all the land mines Pratt threw at her. When you look at the s/l as a whole, however, what a complete and utter disaster. Nomination deserved perhaps. Award should go elsewhere.

I am so happy AMC and OLTL are being nominated. I started watching AMC when the wedding between reese and biana was starting. And i fell in love. The show had so much i diversity and wasnt closed minded at all. But when i saw the OLTL with Oliver and Kyle i was stunned. They both did wonderful jobs and seemed so real with their acting that when they expressed their feelings of both hardship and happiness i couldnt help but smile. Both straight guys made the part. And whats wonderful about both the shows is that they arent the cliche gay guys. They arent saying "like Oh My GAWD" wearing pink with tight jeans. No. They are like most gay men. Normal. Which everone wins it doesnt matter. Both did wonderful! And ill keep watching!

I do not watch AMC or ATWT anymore, but as for all of them in general, I think it is wonderful to tell stories that are out of the box and can include more in their tales of our diverse society. Congratulations!
