Do you ever try to figure out how Adam can get away with all this? Have his cake and eat it too?
"What's that saying in the Bible? 'Love is not selfish' ... but I think sometimes one can be selfish when they're trying to hold on to love. And I think if any of us were in this situation -- which, hopefully nobody reading this is ever in the situation where they've stolen someone's baby and are considering returning the baby -- we would be trying to come up with any angle that we could to do as little damage to one's self and the relationship, while returning the baby.
This isn't a quick fix. This is why Adam didn't just go: 'OK, let's sit down and talk. I want to tell you everything.' I think Adam thinks it's more destructive than it is good to just come right out and put everything under a bright light and a microscope. So he's procrastinating. It's that idea that a person can keep putting it off and think 'I'll find a way to fix this. Something will come about and expose itself as a wonderful opportunity to rectify this whole thing.' But he's finding that the more he puts it off, the harder and harder it gets to admit to what he's done because he's deeper in love ... and so is she.
To me, that makes it fascinating -- because whenever there is a reveal, it's going to be fireworks. Whatever happens, it's going to be scary; the stakes are going to be just about as high as they can be -- that's good drama. I think if the show were called Little House on the Prairie and aired in the middle of the afternoon, we wouldn't have gone this route. It would have been a lot less dramatic, and everyone would be smiling and happy and playing with puppy dogs and eating ice cream and looking at rainbows. But this is the nature of the beast. This is a hardcore drama, and this is a classic soap opera. You have to go through the pits of hell to come out clean on the other side."
Stay tuned for Part 2 -- Michael's take on having Eric Braeden back, who else Adam could face off with, and which Y&R actor is the funniest ... you'll be surprised!
