SOAPnet Interviews "Evil Adam"
You guys won't believe it. We talked to Michael Muhney, aka Adam Newman, last week -- and in just 30 minutes, he made us believe we were pregnant, Sabrina was alive, and he wasn't behind the SEC inquiry into Newman. Then he rescued four puppies from a towering inferno.
Seriously. He's that good.
Once we snapped out of it, we were able to ask the 34-year-old Young and the Restless star about everything from playing the villain to how Adam really feels about Sharon. Keep reading to see why he says things on Y&R are just getting "crazier and crazier" -- and come back tomorrow for Part 2!
What's it like playing the villain?
"Playing the antagonist on a show where the title character was so beloved [Veronica Mars], I was hated by many. But over the course of a few years, it was interesting -- people kind of came around. They started cheering for the bad guy. So when I got the opportunity to play a character like Adam, as far as I was concerned, he had protagonistic aspects and antagonistic, and I figured that I would just embrace both. If there were some livid reactions, I figured: better a big reaction than no reaction at all."
How has the fan reaction been?
"You know, everyone who runs into me in the street or the grocery store, the gym, the airport -- which seems to be quite often now, I'm very surprised at the exposure the show has -- every single person has said: 'I think I might be the only one, but I love you with Sharon, and I want to hate you, but I don't.' And I'll tell them they're not the only one, or from time to time I'll joke with them and say: 'You're sick. Why are you rooting for the bad guy?'
I've been able to sample different slices of demographics -- those who peruse the Internet, those who are casual viewers, those who are die-hard but aren't online, critics, of course, cast members -- it's interesting to see everyone's take on this character. But I can tell you that at the end of the day, it's just fun going into work knowing that I'm going to be playing a part like this."

I think some people take soap operas a little too seriously, including myself. I really don't like Adam and I can't wait for Sharon & Ashley to find out the truth. These writers come up with some outrageous story lines!!! LOL!
Adam is lower than Satan himself. I can't stand Adam, I can't wait until everyone finds out all the evil deeds Satanadam has done since he came on the show.
Adam and Sharon deserve each other. LOL If it wasn't for them the story line would get boring. What a pair.
I wish people would quit wining about Adam we have to have something to look forward too. I still think that daisy and her brother are sheilas spawn . I guess we will find out,, Sheila tried to burn down her house with her own mother in it . The apple doesnt fall far frfom the tree. But if she still looks like phyllis that will take some work to switch them back i bet nick would never know hes gotten so dumb lately. CNt wait to see what happens next ill be wwatching... watchingnow
If it were not for the STUPID Viewers, there would not be a show. So keep your stupid remarks to yourself, and learn how to write.
I really cant understand adam's blindness. Any way from what i saw on the show the doctor is going to talk and sharon will get her baby,which will be good cause i want sharon and nick to get back together. I cant bother with phyliss she is too insecure she needs to know that what goes around will come back around. She took nick from sharon and let nick neglect sharon when casey died i cant wait to see the drama adam is going to get what he is working for cause he work hard and that is going back to jail
I have to say i too am so tired of the constant stupid complaints of some viewers! All i have to say is if you don't like the show then don't watch it.
People you need to seperate fiction from reality and in that way you will be more comfortable with the show!!
Vilians in reality are just as heartless or even more than in the show.
I Love Y&R and i wont stop watching it because the storyline is not going my way!!
In the show: people always chose to look past all the wicked stuffs that Victor does but when anyone less fortunate does it they dont get off as easy.
Alot of pepe blame adam but sharon it just as fool as he is.

Hey, if you really feel like that, giniwese & jenno, then I am happy to say that you are just a feeeew left watching the story!!!! I, for one, have not watched since the Adam stealing baby started!!! I just read all of your comments to get a perspective of whether or not I want to check the story out again!!! I hope all of you are happy with it!! I have better things to do with my time & other entertainment to pursue than be sickened with this trash story line!!! GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!!!!!! If the writers EVER decide to let Adam get caught, I might return! (MIGHT) I just watched this from the very beginning & dearly loved the entertainment of it, but can not stomach the bull any longer!!! Yes, there have been MANY story lines that I did NOT agree with, but I have NEVER been so annoyed or sickened by one as this!!! HAVE FUN WITH THE SHOW!!!!!
I am so tired of the complaining about the Adam/Sharon pairing. For gawd sakes this is classic soap stuff going on here. Sharon will get her baby back and who knows what will happen to Adam, either way I don't care. If this story bothers you so much don't watch, no wonder soaps are dying out.
I just don't get it. People will tolerate and accept and even love Phyllis who MURDERED Sasha, and who ran down and try to MURDER Christine and Paul, they root for her against Nick who has murdered no one! ROFL
And what about Michael Baldwin? He MURDERED Rebecca when she blackmailed him with those photos, ah, he is a loving father and husband right? ROFL And Victor who we all know MURDERED Walter Palin, then there is Jana who MURDERED Carmen Mesta, and Kevin who tried to MURDER Colleen. Give me a break. All of these MURDERERS are running rampant on the show but Adam, yes he must go. Puhleeez!
I love Adam, he is the best of the villains, give me more of him. No one was screaming they wanted Adam gone when Chris Engen was on the show and it was when he was on that most of the dastardly deeds were done! In fact, Chris Engen gave an interivew where he said he didnt understand all the fan support he had for his character.
All this anger is about people upset that Michael Muhney is not nearly as attractive as Chris Engen, the proof is right there and it can't be denied.
