SOAPnet Interviews "Evil Adam"
You guys won't believe it. We talked to Michael Muhney, aka Adam Newman, last week -- and in just 30 minutes, he made us believe we were pregnant, Sabrina was alive, and he wasn't behind the SEC inquiry into Newman. Then he rescued four puppies from a towering inferno.
Seriously. He's that good.
Once we snapped out of it, we were able to ask the 34-year-old Young and the Restless star about everything from playing the villain to how Adam really feels about Sharon. Keep reading to see why he says things on Y&R are just getting "crazier and crazier" -- and come back tomorrow for Part 2!
What's it like playing the villain?
"Playing the antagonist on a show where the title character was so beloved [Veronica Mars], I was hated by many. But over the course of a few years, it was interesting -- people kind of came around. They started cheering for the bad guy. So when I got the opportunity to play a character like Adam, as far as I was concerned, he had protagonistic aspects and antagonistic, and I figured that I would just embrace both. If there were some livid reactions, I figured: better a big reaction than no reaction at all."
How has the fan reaction been?
"You know, everyone who runs into me in the street or the grocery store, the gym, the airport -- which seems to be quite often now, I'm very surprised at the exposure the show has -- every single person has said: 'I think I might be the only one, but I love you with Sharon, and I want to hate you, but I don't.' And I'll tell them they're not the only one, or from time to time I'll joke with them and say: 'You're sick. Why are you rooting for the bad guy?'
I've been able to sample different slices of demographics -- those who peruse the Internet, those who are casual viewers, those who are die-hard but aren't online, critics, of course, cast members -- it's interesting to see everyone's take on this character. But I can tell you that at the end of the day, it's just fun going into work knowing that I'm going to be playing a part like this."

I am beginning to wonder if there really is a mystery woman & it is all MISS DAISY being HER MOTHER reincarnate!!! I now believe that Sheila IS dead & Daisy is taking on her hate feud for Sheila! Michael NEEDS to realize that something is REALLY wrong with Lauren!! The crazy girl is poisoning her!!....I DO wonder WHO Malcom's new lady is!!! Is it someone mysteriously from the past?? .........The writers need to get the ball rolling on this baby thing!! GET IT DONE WITH!! Let Sharon have her baby!!! Do not let Ashley find out because she just might NOT let anyone else know!!! She is a cunning witch too!!! Look at how she did Nikki with Victor years ago!! She did NOT care that he was a married man!!! Nikki found them once in their cabin on the ranch!! Yes, Victor is a snake too!! At least he NEVER tries to deny who he is!!! He HAS done some terrible things in his past!!! He just always came out on top! I HOPE THAT IS NOT what the writers are going to do for Adam & his evilness!! Let Billy go to the hospital & find out about the baby!!! Let the good doctor have left a letter telling all in case of something happening to him & send it to the police!!!! Get this done & get on with another story line ... like the Tucker & Kay one!!!
well i guess what comes around goes around...anyway we all wanna see Sharon get her baby back...and i'm beginning too wonder if it's ever gonna Happen...Ashley and Sharon both need too see Adam for who he really is...and now that the good doc is gone...how are the writers gonna come up with a storyline too let the truth come out..you know i feel like it's hopeless now.and now i wanna say this...Please get rid of that FAKE LAUGH THAT LILY HAS...PLEASE...if she's gonna be happy and laugh...let it at least seem like the real thing...i mean she's a sweet person...but that is just the most FAKE LAUGH EVER...let her grow up...and writers come on you all know that Adam and Sharon don't belong together ...Sharon deserves better...please...
Sheila has children, Ryder and Daisy. She is alive and is using her daughter Daisy to torture Lauren with rats. Sheila has a new look. Maybe she'll come back looking like Laurens mom. I'm just making up a storyline. But who knows it maybe true.
I enjoy the storylines on Y&R. They are doing a great job is the reason why they are #1. It is better to keep us in suspense and all roared up than be bored to death than be axed off the tube. Thanks for bringing back Victor and Nikki. I see a new storyline as evolved between an Abbott and a Winters.
I'm ready for the table to turn on ADAM I don't like him at all. But to the WRITERS do you read or hear any of our comments.It seems as though you do not just when I think things are turning, you come up with something stupid again. I'm just ready for you to make things right. NICK & SHARON, BABY FAITH RETURNED, and ADAM (oh for goodness sake) EXPOSE HIM. There are some more things to make right, but work on these first.
The writers have caused so much pain for Sharon over the past two years. Hasn't she suffered enough? Please, please stop the hurt for Sharon. Get Adam away from her, and give she and Nick their baby back and put their family back together. Give Jack his little girl, Summer, and his wife, Phyllis. They were hot together. Please writers, listen to your viewers.
Get Adam away from Sharon. Personaly, I don't think Adam is Victor's son. Baby Faith needs her real mom. I am like the others how can you have a baby and get up walking around like nothing. Now you are not crazy anymore and can take care of a baby. I would love to see Victor bust Adam also. They had made Victor look stupid enough. I can't believe they let all the things Adam was doing go over Victor's head like that. For example when Abby found those hidden camars in the house and them hearing that sound come out of Adam's room from the laptop. I hope Patty tells on Adam. She told Victor that someone in his house hates him more than she does. Let Victor start thinking back and Sharon needs to remember that note Adam wrote. I hope Nick be the one to see it on the plane.
Yes, Adam does need to get what he so deserve. I hope the writers do not think we are stupid. All thought this stuff is not real, you will have people thinking that they can get away with silly, stupid, and crazy things. You are setting bad examples for those who are watching, It is bad enough that everybody on the show is rich. There are not one poor person on the show & that Macolm thing is pityful. Neil has raised that young lady from a baby so send Malcom on his very way. You know that Mack is not going to give up those babies.
Hey come on people we all love Y&R but some of that stuff must stop. Blind people can do some things but the things that Adam is doing is ridiculou. Yes the writers do have a hard job but enough is enough with Adam getting away with evil things and Phyllis walking all over Sharon. If they had to put somebody together then it should have been Phyllis and Adam not Sharon and Adam. I too have watched since Kay and her husband with Jill being the maid. However, I am bored with all the decentful things going on under everybody nose. If you think Sharon is stupid so is Ashley. I don't look at it as wining, threats, nor complaints bc people are voicing their opinons saying what they would like to see happen and there is nothing wrong with that at all.
I agree with all of you except when it comes to getting rid of Sharon. I can't stand Adam and want him gone. Please let that drama end. Show him for what he really is to Victor and all the others. Put Sharon and her family back together. Oh! don't forget to let Jack know that Phyllis's little girl is his child and not Nick.
