SOAPnet Interviews "Evil Adam"

Michael MuhneyYou guys won't believe it. We talked to Michael Muhney, aka Adam Newman, last week -- and in just 30 minutes, he made us believe we were pregnant, Sabrina was alive, and he wasn't behind the SEC inquiry into Newman. Then he rescued four puppies from a towering inferno.

Seriously. He's that good.

Once we snapped out of it, we were able to ask the 34-year-old Young and the Restless star about everything from playing the villain to how Adam really feels about Sharon. Keep reading to see why he says things on Y&R are just getting "crazier and crazier" -- and come back tomorrow for Part 2!

What's it like playing the villain?

"Playing the antagonist on a show where the title character was so beloved [Veronica Mars], I was hated by many. But over the course of a few years, it was interesting -- people kind of came around. They started cheering for the bad guy. So when I got the opportunity to play a character like Adam, as far as I was concerned, he had protagonistic aspects and antagonistic, and I figured that I would just embrace both. If there were some livid reactions, I figured: better a big reaction than no reaction at all."

How has the fan reaction been?

"You know, everyone who runs into me in the street or the grocery store, the gym, the airport -- which seems to be quite often now, I'm very surprised at the exposure the show has -- every single person has said: 'I think I might be the only one, but I love you with Sharon, and I want to hate you, but I don't.' And I'll tell them they're not the only one, or from time to time I'll joke with them and say: 'You're sick. Why are you rooting for the bad guy?'

I've been able to sample different slices of demographics -- those who peruse the Internet, those who are casual viewers, those who are die-hard but aren't online, critics, of course, cast members -- it's interesting to see everyone's take on this character. But I can tell you that at the end of the day, it's just fun going into work knowing that I'm going to be playing a part like this."

This story line with Patty and Emily how fake. She's in a padded room but she has something to bleach Emily's hair.No one at the door and Emily so weak she couldn't fight back. Get this story done and over with. Get them both off.Didn't watch it yesterday and won't today cause of wedding. More on with the actors already more Victor and Nickie....

I like him and Sharon together too. But we all know this will never be.

Next to Victor, Adam is the best thing to ever happen to Y&R. Who ever cast Michael Muhney was a genius. He is an outstanding actor. He turns on the evil chemistry with character's such as Phyllis, Billy and Jack. He and Sharon have the hottest chemistry on the show without spending all their time in bed or smooching such as Jack and Emily and Nick and Phyllis seem to do. I hope the writer's can somehow bring him through the damage he has done and keep him on the show forever and keep him with Sharon and Faith to boot. He is definitely a "chip off the ole Victor block"

I disagree with those who say there is chemistry between Adam and Sharon. I don't call chemistry emotional dependence upon another for existence. That is all Adam represents to Sharon at the present moment. If and when Sharon discovers the truth about this pathological liar all chemistry will go down the drain. Adam has too many ghosts in the closet which are coming back to haunt him.

I never liked Adam but everything changed when Michael Muhney took the role. I have not stopped loving Adam even when he plays his selfish and manipulative character. Moreover, Sharon and Adam have this wonderful chemistry, let him not break her heart

i've always liked Adam on the show. He is good and evil. There is a chemistry with Sharon that Sharon & Nick never had. Just look at how many times they cheated on each other. I just hope that Faith doesn't turn out to be another "Rosemary's Baby".

Good grief. Adam's character is a waste of good air time. I leave the room whenever he comes into the picture. He says that he "loves" Sharon, but what he is experiencing is not love. I don't know what it is, but it's not love. A bizarre kind of fondness perhaps, but not love. The character of Adam doesn't have a clue. He cannot make up for what he has done. It's simply too horrendous. Keeping the lie about Faith is a perfect example of it. I enjoy a good villian as well as the next person, but Adam's character is absolutely an anti-social to the nth degree but without any charming qualities like most really good sociopaths.

The best thing for Adam is to go into a coma and never wake up cause that is about as much as that character adds to the show.
Better yet let him go completely off the deep end and become an advanced psycho serial killer that gets caught and kills himself to avoid prison.

I actually love Adam. He's great! I saw one day when it seemed if Victor was no longer gonna be on the show Adam was acting like the mean Victor. Give the guy a break, I have never hated Adam. I like him with Sharon too.
