SOAPnet Interviews "Evil Adam"
You guys won't believe it. We talked to Michael Muhney, aka Adam Newman, last week -- and in just 30 minutes, he made us believe we were pregnant, Sabrina was alive, and he wasn't behind the SEC inquiry into Newman. Then he rescued four puppies from a towering inferno.
Seriously. He's that good.
Once we snapped out of it, we were able to ask the 34-year-old Young and the Restless star about everything from playing the villain to how Adam really feels about Sharon. Keep reading to see why he says things on Y&R are just getting "crazier and crazier" -- and come back tomorrow for Part 2!
What's it like playing the villain?
"Playing the antagonist on a show where the title character was so beloved [Veronica Mars], I was hated by many. But over the course of a few years, it was interesting -- people kind of came around. They started cheering for the bad guy. So when I got the opportunity to play a character like Adam, as far as I was concerned, he had protagonistic aspects and antagonistic, and I figured that I would just embrace both. If there were some livid reactions, I figured: better a big reaction than no reaction at all."
How has the fan reaction been?
"You know, everyone who runs into me in the street or the grocery store, the gym, the airport -- which seems to be quite often now, I'm very surprised at the exposure the show has -- every single person has said: 'I think I might be the only one, but I love you with Sharon, and I want to hate you, but I don't.' And I'll tell them they're not the only one, or from time to time I'll joke with them and say: 'You're sick. Why are you rooting for the bad guy?'
I've been able to sample different slices of demographics -- those who peruse the Internet, those who are casual viewers, those who are die-hard but aren't online, critics, of course, cast members -- it's interesting to see everyone's take on this character. But I can tell you that at the end of the day, it's just fun going into work knowing that I'm going to be playing a part like this."

Yes Adam is certainly devious but the Newmans deserve everything he has done to them
I have been watching this show for 20 yrs now its the only soap I watch besides Bold & the beautiful.I think bringing Adam in the show was smart,hes evil like his father Victor.I do agree sharon and nick needs to be togeother and Philsis needs to be gone.Sharon will find out about her baby!!!
IT SEEMS MOST OF THE COMMENTS BY VIEWERS ARE ALL ON THE SAME PAGE. THE WRITERS SHOULD TAKE A STEP BACK AND LISTEN TO THEIR VIEWERS. MOST OF THE RECENT PLOTS HAVE GONE ON WAY TOO LONG, JUST GET ON WITH IT AND SETTLE SOMETHING AND MOVE ON TO OTHER BELIEVEABLE PLOTS THAT DON'T MAKE US VIEWERS SEEM STUPID TO EVEN THINK THINGS COULD HAPPEN THE WAY Y&R PRESENTS IT. FOR INSTANCE THE BABY SWITCH AND ALL THE THINGS ADAM HAS GOTTEN AWAY WITH. BABIES BEING BORN ONE WEEK AND 3 MONTHS LATER IS IN SCHOOL. JUST GET REAL...
I just got hooked on the young and restless and just love the show it's a great soap
Why do you writers not want to listen to your fans? I can not stand the character of Adam(evilness)!! I know that you writers seem to live that fact, so you are NOT going to do anything about him!! That is ok!! I will STOP WATCHING this show once more!! Every time you have a scene with Sharon & his evilness, I get sick to my stomach!! The fact that the head writer is a woman & lets this kind of story line keep on is nauseating!! The fact of Ashley having a miscarriage & then her abdomen keeps getting bigger, then goes into "labor" & gives "birth" is totally barbaric!! NO WOMAN would NOT know that she had had a miscarriage first of all!! Then you letting Sharon go through loosing a second daughter is nothing less than horrible writing!! Get JUST A LITTLE realism back into this show!!! Adam is SUPPOSED to be blind, but he can get around with his evilness where ever he wants!! Now you are trying to make us feel sorry for him!!! Give us a BREAK!!! he will NEVER NEVER NEVER GET ANY SYMPATHY FROM MOST OF US!!!
Adam is the most diabolical character on Y&R since. . . . . Victor! Without Adam who would be Victor's successor? Nick is way too honest & soft. Victoria seems to have lost her edge over the years & no one else is "Victor" enough to do the job. If you've been watching this show long enough then you remember when when was the most cutthroat sob in Genoa City. Oh, wait a minute, he still is! Everyone loves Victor now, & trust me, everyone will come to love Adam.
Now Phyllis. There's a character who needs die off!

I think that the young and the restless was better off without Adam. He is a jerk, liar and darn right nasty Guy! As for Sharon she needs too have the truth about her baby and get her Faith back and drop that good for nothing Adam she is married too!
i love the y&r but if yall don't put sharon and nick back together i'm not going to watch it anymore. sharon doesn't belong with adam. what are yall going to do next.
