In a Word: Love and marriage -- and anger and betrayal -- loom large in hospital life. Every pair of panties tells a story, but don't believe everything you hear. Money doesn't change everything, and you can't solve your problems by getting married.
The Action: The story jumps to life like it's been zapped with a defibrillator. Meredith has her panties in a bunch -- figuratively speaking -- over whether to date Finn, the noble veterinarian, or Derek, who's got his shorts in a bunch because wife Addison found Meredith's ACTUAL panties in the pocket of his tux. Derek makes it clear he'd rather be with Meredith. Addison handles it like a grownup, or at least a grownup with a screw loose: She gets blotto and sleeps with McSteamy.
Chief of Surgery Richard Webber is going through some twists of his own. Wife Adele gives him an ultimatum: retirement or divorce. How can you possibly leave a woman like that? Just slip out the back, Jack: Webber moves in with Derek at his trailer out in the country.
Meanwhile, orthopedic surgeon Callie, who's incredibly pragmatic in a screwy kind of way, is discovered to be living in the hospital's basement, and the chief kicks her out. First she moves in with George, who suddenly proposes -- that's a little too fast for Callie. So she moves into a hotel instead. But it's George's attachment to Meredith and to Izzie in particularly that causes real friction. Callie accuses him of always putting them first and breaks up with him, leading him into a drunken sex session with Izzie.
Izzie is having the kind of dilemma we all wish for: The father of her late fiance, heart patient Denny, hands her a check for $8.7 million. Cha-ching! But money can't change anything for Izzie, who's out of the internship program for cutting a wire in Denny's heart-assisting device last season. (The plan was to move him up the organ recipient list by making his condition worse; it worked, but then he died of a stroke later.) She gets a chance to return but has to prove herself all over again.
Cristina and Preston get engaged and set a date, but a former lover and her own doubts complicate the wedding. At the last minute, Preston calls things off and leaves town. Back at the hospital, Webber stays on as Chief of Surgery, and George gets the bad news he failed his final intern exam -- again. Derek and Meredith are still on the fence, and the triangle of Izzie, Callie, and George remains still unresolved.
Our Take: We like George and Izzie together.
Your Take: When are Derek and Meredith finally going to get it together?
