Scott Evans joined the cast of "One Life to Live" in late 2007 in the recurring role of sweet and sorta geeky police officer Oliver Fish, but over the last few months has seen himself placed on the front burner in a much-anticipated -- and buzzed about -- upcoming romance with the character of Kyle (Brett Claywell). Currently, Fish is totally in denial that he's gay, and to prove it is dating his roommate Layla Williamson. On Thursday, August 6th's "OLTL," Kyle and Fish (dubbed "Kish" by many) shared a long-awaited kiss. We talked with Scott Evans to get his thoughts on the kiss, Fish, and all things "OLTL."
How does it feel to be part of a story that's gotten so much attention from a lot of different outlets?
It feels incredible! It's something I certainly didn't see coming at all. I joined the cast in a smaller role and it's just been getting more airtime. I had no idea where my character was going -- and then when it happened, it was awesome. To be part of a story like this [Fish and Kyle's romance; Fish's coming out] is incredible.
So what's up with Fish? What's going through his head? He seems to be very blatantly denying that he's gay.
Right now, [he's in] an insane internal struggle -- which a lot of people go through, depending on where they come from and their backgrounds. He was raised in a really conservative background. So there's this huge struggle trying to figure out what to do -- if anything.

I have nothing against the gay storyline, It's not my bag but, Whatever. I am curious thought, I haven't seen this question asked so, I'm going to ask it. "Is Scott Evens really gay?? Like I said, It doesn't matter eitherway, I'm just curious. Please don't anyone take offence at my question.
My only complaint about the kiss is that Fish melted too quickly. So far into self-delusion, he would have resisted at least a second or two more. That said, bravo anyway, just for getting it done.

OLTL's last two forays into gay-themed storylines both mixed horrific events with the gay characters to, I don't know, soften the impact for conservative viewers?
.
The story of Billy Douglas's coming out was intertwined with the false allegations Marty made against Andrew Carpenter. Billy, as such a sympathetic character, was easier for unevolved America to accept.
.
Then (more than a decade later), so as not to stereotype gays as sympathetic characters or victims, Daniel Coleson was such an over-the-top slug that he killed Jenn Rappaport (and left her in a garbage pile, bad Daniel!) in order to keep his preferences secret.
.
Now, perhaps, third time's the charm. Just good, old-fashioned soap opera. "The Secret That Could Destroy the Relationship." But with a twist. I think Layla and the Kish is a terrific storyline, and I look forward to watching it play out.

Except for the recasting of Carlotta Vega. Shame on Patricia Mauceri for her bout of homophobia. She was replaced after refusing to play Carlotta Vega as gay-friendly.
.
Granted, she is allowed her personal views, and I could argue that Carlotta, as such a devout Catholic, SHOULD be played as anti-gay, but the bottom line is: the woman is an actor. She should play whatEVER is written for her. That's her job. You know damn well she would have had no problem if they'd decided to give her a muderous twin to play, or have her feel guilt-ridden after having an affair with a married man. Her choice of where to draw the line as to what she would play smells of pure bigotry. A shame, too, as I'd always loved her in the role.
.
Best wishes to the woman who will replace her.

In other news:

I'm glad OLTL is staying in NYC. It's somehow comforting to know they're so close by to this Connecticut fan who's been watching the shenanigans in Llanview ever since Cathy Craig kidnapped baby Kevin (then Riley) Buchanan.
.
One more thing before I go:
.
The "Who's Rex's daddy?" storyline teat has really been milked dry, OLTL writing staff. Wrap it up, already! Roscoe Born ain't gettin' any younger, y'know...
.
Happy end-of-summer to everyone who loves OLTL!
.
Peace.
I think it is about time OLTL has adult gay scenes. Fish and Kyle are sooo cute together. Let's end up the Layla farce soon!
