Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans as Patch and Kayla Johnson on "Days of our Lives."

We've just received shocking news: According the Soap Opera Digest, Stephen Nichols (Patch) and Mary Beth Evans (Kayla) have been fired from "Days of our Lives."

The hugely popular duo joined the show back in the mid-'80s and quickly became one of the show's biggest supercouples. The characters married in 1990, and Patch was presumed dead shortly thereafter.

Both actors reprised their roles sixteen years later, when Patch was revealed to be alive. Their return was a huge deal, and we were so excited to see them again. Now, it seems we're going to have to say goodbye to them all over again.

This devastating revelation comes on the heels of Deidre Hall (Marlena) and Drake Hogestyn's (John) untimely exit just over a week ago. We've also heard rumors that Thaao Penghlis (Tony), an Emmy nominee for Best Lead Actor last year, has been let go. It makes us wonder who else might be on the chopping block in the weeks and months to come.
