The late, great actor James Mitchell passed away earlier this year - and now All My Children is paying tribute to him with the passing of his character, Palmer Cortlandt. James played Palmer from 1979 until his death. Palmer was a powerful, charismatic, manipulative titan of industry who touched everyone's lives (mostly through plotting against him). Put simply, Palmer was legendary.
Returning for his memorial are ex-wife Daisy (played by Gillian Spencer) and long-suffering daughter, Nina (played by Taylor Miller), who join the current cast in remembering the life of Palmer Cortlandt (and James Mitchell's masterful portrayal). We here at SOAPnet.com decided to look back on Palmer's amazing (and slightly criminal) life. So take the journey with us in our Palmer Cortlandt R.I.P. slideshow.
Look back at Palmer's life here.
What was your favorite Palmer memory?

I've been watching AMC since the very first episode. I always enjoyed the scenes Palmer had with Daisy in the early days. Also loved his rivalry with Adam. James Mitchell was a great actor appearing in many films long before he started on AMC back int he late 70's. We were fortunate to have him on AMC for so many years! I had taped the Palmer Memorial show and just watched it yesterday. Watching the old scenes and memories were heart wrenching at times and I found myself sobbing by the end of the show. Thank you AMC for the lovely Memorial show for a lovely man.
THE SLIDE SHOW WAS NICE, BUT THE VIDEO RESTARTING EVERY TIME THE NEXT PICTURE CAME UP MADE ME NUTS!!!!!!
I agree. I wished Phoebe Wallingford had a good send off like Palmer did. Loved the episode.

I only saw parts of the show, but what I did see I liked. I liked the different clips they showed, even though I wasn't watching the show during those days. It was nice that the people who knew Palmer best paid tribute to him. Would have been nice if more of Palmer's family were there. I don't know how many children he had, but there should have been more family there than two ex-wives, a daughter and a one time stepson.
RIP PC/JM.
rest in peace palmer we will always miss u
The tribute was lovely it was wonderful to stroll down memory lane to see Dasiy and Nina. The thing marring the tribute was the absences of Petey Courtlandt.
Petey should be there and Daniel Kennedy should have been playing him! Now that the Courtlandt family will be back front and center AMC needs to find Daniel Kennedy and bring him back as Petey! He should never have been let go in thefirst place!!
First of all i would like to thank you All My Children for letting us all share in the memorial service of James"Palmer"mitchell.Athough it was sad it was also enjoyable in a sad kind of way.I will truly miss his character alot.Thank you All My Children for giving us such a wonderful actor to enjoy. We will forever miss him. Also to the family of Mr. Mitchell may God bless you and give you strength in your time of need.Lisa4480
it is so sad when a soap icon dies, i will miss him dearly, RIP JM/Palmer
I love Palmer's comment to Tad the Cad about placing first in the "Mother-Daughter Relay." That was years ago, but I can't forget it.
Hard to pick one moment.
Incidentally, today's memorial was the kind of send-off Phoebe deserved but didn't get. The episode must be all-Palmer...I'd expect the same for a Joe or an Erica...anybody of that caliber and that longetivity.
Dixie waiting for him? Classic and unexpected.
The writers showed both respect and a good working knowledge of AMC...though it needed a few more clips. Hire an archivist, for god's sake.
