Outstanding Drama Series
"All My Children"
"The Bold and the Beautiful"
"Days of our Lives"
"Days" is nominated for a season that saw the swan songs of beloved characters like John, Marlena, Patch, Kayla, and Ava. ...What? Hey WE loved Ava, in all her evil glory. But the Ava story exemplified the "Days" of 2008 - a more mature show that had some craziness, but strayed away from some of the silly, campy stories the show has been known for in the past. Their submission to the judging panel was poignant: The death of Grandpa Shawn.
"AMC" blew into town last year with a huge tornado storyline, more strife for Kendall and Zach than you could shake a paternity test at, and the slow and steady crazy-fication of Annie. The tornado shows were totally amazing, so based on those alone, "AMC" has a good shot. But, while there were 2008 highlights (Angie! Jesse! That train station scene!), most of the year was marked by some questionable and confusing stories (Dixie wasn't killed by the Satin Slayer?). As for "B&B," they always get us with the absolute glamour of the Forrester and Logan clans -- not to mention Jackie M's insane designs – but Storm's suicide and Katie's heart drama gave the show strong material.
Our Guess: "AMC" will likely get it based on the standalone tornado eps, but we really wouldn't be shocked if B&B pulled out a surprise win and got its first Emmy statue for best show.
