Ford is struggling with his feelings as he prepares to hand over Ryder to Joey and Aubrey, as per the court order. The whole marrying-Tess gambit in the first place was all so he could have his son, after all. So Ford offers Joey a deal: he'll commit Tess in exchange for Ryder.
