Azita Ghanizada makes her debut as Dr. Saira Batra when "General Hospital: Night Shift" returns for Season Two on July 22 at 11pm ET/PT on SOAPnet. Saira went to medical school in Paris with Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough), who has invited her to Port Charles to start an alternative medicine program.
"What a cosmopolitan girl!" Azita tells SOAPnet.com of her character. "Saira grew up in San Francisco, she went to medical school in Paris and after med school, she took a sabbatical. She journeyed to places like India, China, Thailand, and Bali to study Eastern medicine.
"Saira went back to her roots," the actress continues, "because she grew up in San Francisco, but her parents are from Northern India. She knows a lot about herbs, acupuncture, energy healing, Ayurveda, and Reiki -- things that have been around for thousands of years. She's big into things that are healing for the body, mind, and soul."
