Mischa Barton may be making a Lauren Conrad-esque move up the Southern California coast. Zap2It.com reports that the actress, best known for playing Orange County princess Marissa Cooper, could be landing a spot in the Hollywood (foot)Hills-set "Melrose Place."

A source tells the website that the CW -- who had wanted Mischa for the Georgina Sparks role on "Gossip Girl" -- is really excited about possibly snagging Barton for the "MP" remake. Though the actress hasn't been on TV since her "OC" character met an untimely demise, she could bring in a younger audience that isn't familiar with the original Heather Locklear-led series (a tragedy that such people even exist, no?).

Meanwhile, in more official casting news, Zap2It also reports that Katie Cassidy (yes, David's daughter) has joined the "Melrose" cast as Ella Flynn, "a stylish, alluring, and ambitious publicist." Fans of "Supernatural" will recognize Katie as the original demon with a heart of gold, Ruby.
