Original "Melrose Place" star Andrew Shue keeps it real.

The CW is bringing in the big guns for their revamp of "Melrose Place." The network, which has seen success with the new "90210," has ordered an "MP" pilot episode -- and hired an Oscar winner to direct it.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Davis Guggenheim, who directed the Al Gore climate change documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," has been tapped to helm the tone-setting first episode. "Smallville" writers Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin wrote the script (after "One Tree Hill" creator Mark Schwahn stepped away from the project).

While Guggenheim is known for his serious fare of late, he started his career directing series like "Party of Five," and "Sisters."

Sci-fi writers and a documentary director -- what do you think of the direction the new "Melrose Place" is heading in?
