Daytime GaysIt's the "Summer of (same-sex) Love" on the soaps right now. As we've previously reported, "One Life to Live" is gearing up for a major gay storyline in the form of Oliver Fish and Kyle Lewis. But "The Young and the Restless" has also been pushing the envelope with the recent development of very straight Adam sleeping with very gay Rafe to get him off the trail of Adam's gaslighting shenanigans ... plus, we've heard rumors that there may be a third gay character on the horizon. And we certainly couldn't forget "Nuke" (Noah and Luke), the popular couple burning up the airwaves over on "As The World Turns."

The Sapphic love is in full effect, too, with "Otalia" (Natalia and Olivia) causing quite a sensation on "Guiding Light" as it hurtles towards its dramatic finale. But no one holds a candle to "All My Children," daytime's go-to show for ladies in love (with other ladies).

So we thought it a perfect time to review some of our favorite Daytime Gay characters.

Click here to see the slideshow of many (but by no means all) of our favorite gay characters over the years.

I happen to be thoroughly enjoying these story lines. I have watched soaps hit and miss for the last 10 years, but Luke and Noah, and now Kyle and Fish, have brought me to the point where I am a loyal viewer of both ATWT and OLTL.

The producers know exactly what they are doing - these story lines are pulling in tons of viewers, both gay and straight (yes I am straight), in the under 40 age bracket who would never have bothered to watch otherwise. We are the next generation, and we are happy to be seeing our peers portrayed in a realistic manner. We are the people who are going to be around and watching for the next thirty years when all you old prejudiced people are long gone.

By the way WEEDLE14 - could you tell me what exactly a 'CULPERT' is?

I guess I am just adding my complaint which more than likely is just me venting on line. I have stopped watching the soaps on CBS and I am learning all of the products that are advertised and I am refusing to buy or use these products. I may not be able to change what they show on these soaps I do have the power not to watch which I hope hurts the ratings also not supporting and buying the products will hurt them where it really hurts. I have always enjoyed watching these soaps but I do not like the way they are now. I have granchildren who are out of school for the summer and I Like the commerical said I have to block you.
If anyone really cares what is been shown hurt them where it hurts ((((The pocket book)))).I also agree that the writing has been really off, but I guess that is what happens when people stop caring.

First of all, I don't believe for a moment that any of you "offended" people have stopped watching...and I would bet that because of the gay storylines you are drawn to watch more...you probably just make sure no one catches you watching!

Second, you are offended by people in love...really...? I know this might sound kind of strange but what offends me and what causes me to change the channel on a soap are things like rape and murder! I know, call me crazy! I don't know about all of these new storylines coming to be this summer...but AMC's Bianca and Maggie storyline as well as GL's Olivia and Natalia storyline have been just about the sweetest love stories daytime has ever done. Those stories are supposed to be what daytime is all about.

I am tired of the mobsters and pregnant characters being physically injured so that they lose their baby. I hate a storyline that involves a rapist sleeping with the woman he raped. I am tired of the dark and pessimistic and want more romances and love stories...the gender of the characters does not matter to me as long as they are told right.

So bring it, I say....just make sure you tell the stories well. Learn from the mistakes of others before you. We wanted a love-story and a joyful wedding for Bianca and Reese but instead we got crap like being pregnant with your bro-in-law's child while bro-in-law macks on your bride-to-be...and then, oh yeah...your cousin dies while at the same time you are saying your vows! That sucks...viewers wanted one moment of joy, love and romance for Bianca...and they could not even give us that!

"offended"?.."going to far"?..."pushed down our throats"?..

wow, was it not too long ago the same thing was being said about blacks/minorities on tv. It seems like we can't break this cycle of ignorance and fear of differences. Just because you're not use to the traditional characters we've been forced to watch and accept as "the norm" does not mean that anything outside of that is wrong.

And what makes you think that the gay community, asian, native american, or any unrepresented population isn't tired of watching the same old Caucasian heterosexual characters on tv make out constantly. Since they've dealt with watching these demographics that don't represent them for years, maybe you can suck it up too and learn something about people that aren't just like you for a change.

I agree with other posters. I don't want to watch gay love scenes on the soap. There is a gay channel on cable, this is where this type of story line should be shown. I think the issue is being imposed on viewers, just because this lifestyle is out in the world doesn't mean we want to see the intimate details. Besides, it is easier to explain to a child a love scene between men & women than it is when they are both the same sex.

Daytime television is about the gayest thing on TV, and who do you people think puts together this website and writes these articles? You "offended" commenters should get out more if you think you don't spend half your time indulging in entertainment and culture created by talented gay people.

I know the world has a lot of gays and it is getting pushed down our throats but now showing it on the soap episodes really turns me off. Come on, why flaunt the gay issue I won't be watching any more if this continues

Wed, Jul 08 - 10:20 am

I am completely offended by gay time on day time, so I refuse to watch shows that put it so front and center. That is the beauty of the remote, change it.

As the World Turns, is going to far with Noah and Friend, some things should be left to the imagination....
