History Repeats Itself

Johnny Zacchara, Kristina Davis, Sonny Corinthos, General Hospital

You'd think someone like General Hospital's Sonny Corinthos would know better. He's been around the block a few times. He's seen how the mistakes of the past get made again and again. So what could he possibly be thinking rigging a bomb to kill Johnny when that exact same thing is what killed his pregnant bride Lily all those years ago.

But Sonny's not the only one. Soap characters are repeating history all the time, from children traveling down the same paths as their parents to grown adults (who should know better) making the same mistakes they used to. We collected some of the more prominent examples of history repeating itself and put them in a gallery for you.

It looks as if I am not the only one that thinks the writers are ruining the greatest soap ever! They have clearly turned the show into BORING, REPITIVE, PREDICTABLE, AND UNTRUE TO THE CHARACTERS. They have taken away Sonny's edge, Alexi's strength, Jason's oneness, etc need I really go on. You want a show for Teenagers write another teenie Booper show keep them out of ours. Fans get attached to characters for the way there are for the long term not the they you write them for each story. Get a grip writers.

Patrick and Lisa??? No way. How in #$#$$ can the writers justify doing that to Robin???? We don't want to see them broken up, or messed up, or anything. Why can't they have a good life, lord knows Robin deserves one. Right now they are writing Patrick as a jerk, the minute his wife is not in sight, he gets horney? Come on, the guy has more brains than that. Your viewers don't like to see him acting like a jerk, lets make it a dream he's having, ok??

Hi Ann4406,
I just want to say that I couldn't agree with you more. The writing for GH really sucks. How do GH expect their viewership to be on the rise with this kind of writing?

I just read an article that was asking the Stars If Daytime Was Doomed? I would hate for another Soap to be cancelled but with this type of writing, what do GH expects.

As I was reading the comments from the stars the statement from Christian LeBlanc caught my eye and I hope ABC will take note.

LeBlanc: We have 100,000 choices now. You want an audience, you’ve got to be good. Don’t treat your audience like morons. Step up your game or get out.

Do you hear that GH, STEP-UP YOUR GAME AND DON'T TREAT YOUR AUDIENCE LIKE MORONS.

ABC, especially General Hospital in my opinion, has tried and is trying to erase the history and foundation of this once great show. They write plot points instead of complete s/l's. They want us to believe certain characters were never together and they keep them apart for no aparent reason other then to push their own personal agenda. Well I want to put GH on notice, that you can't treat your audience like morons and expect them to stick around and give you their support. You can't forget the history and foundation of this soap and expect your viewership to stay strong. Go back to writing complete storylines. Family, drama and suspense. Stop trying to fit characters in s/l's were they don't fit. If they don't fit it's time to get rid of it... Simple as that. We want GH to survive, we don't want anymore Soaps cancelled, but you need to give your audience something they want to see. Give us back our Vets, the very age demo that's kept you on the air this long you have now kick them to the curb and said they no longer matter. Well, I got news for you GH, that very age demo- that you think no longer matters was your biggest cheerleaders/advertisers/networkers. Grandma, brought her daughter to the show, then her daughter brought her daughter to the show, etc, etc, but now since you've decided that the Grandmas are no longer important then there's no longer any networking for the show. Grandma can no longer turn to GH and see the Monica's and Edward's that she use to love. Grandma can no longer tell her daughter about how Monica fell in love with Jason even though he's not her biological son, the new viewers don't even know that Edward is Jason's grandfather, or Tracey is Jason's aunt (just a few examples of how you General Hospital have wiped all traces of Jason's past and the history of the Q's off the map of Port Charles) this is not how you keep your show on the air for the next 5 years. Go back to the basics of writing good people storylines, believable storylines. We know this is a Soap but even in Soapland somethings should stay true and that's FAMILY. Give us back our vets, stay true to the history of this show and viewers will come back.

And remember your suppose to write the storylines for your audience NOT for what suites you. We're waiting GH!

The bomb isn't the way sonny would go. I am not sure why gh writers are doing everything to kill Sonny's character, but think its dumb. Afterall Sonny is GH. The shows lacks a real storyline. I also think having the viewers assume michael was raped is too much. Need better storylines

i thought Franaco's return was a little odd to say the least. A panhandler?? Forget that Diane even gave him $$. I hope the writiers don't get stupid again w/ this same storyline as last yr. It's nice that Jason and Michael are out of prison though- even though in real life those situations wouldn't even apply to citizens like them.

I think that the writers on GH have run out of ideas. Everything is not about sex. The writers imply that no married people can resist sex when their spouses leave town. Lisa and Patrick would have been much more interesting if they had continued to resist getting intimate. Any writer can write in a sex scene. The recent writing for Sonny's role is ridiculous.the plan to have a car bomb shows no imagination at all. GH needs better writers!!!
