Are Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt seriously on the outs? The lovebirds (?) were in Vegas on Wednesday, taping "The Hills." But a report had them staying in separate rooms -- in different casinos!

People.com said Heidi camped out at the Palazzo, and Spencer at the Hard Rock. And they mostly spent the trip apart -- aside from a fight captured on camera at Dos Caminos restaurant. Spencer was seen at a martial-arts battle (!) and hanging out with his sis, new "Hills" bad girl Stephanie.

A rep even confirmed some sort of trouble in paradise, saying, "They are working on their relationship."

Working it for the cameras, perhaps? One minute they're arguing (on screen and off), and the next they're laughing and frolicking while dressed like rabbits (for real -- it was an Easter photo op). Excuse us for being just a tiny bit suspicious that their ups and downs are just a clever PR strategy. But if so, it's working.
