In a nutshell: OMG and WTH?!?
The Daytime Emmy Nominations aired live on "The View" today, and, like "Hot Topics," there were a lot of surprises. Primarily with who wasn't nominated.
Let's start by congratulating all the nominees. Since it's so fast-paced, daytime is a really, really tough industry. Most shows do 250 episodes a YEAR. So, it's nice that so many talented people were recognized for doing quality work.
But where the heck were some others? Here's our take on the Supporting Actor category:
Lots of great talent here. Trent Dawson can do it all as Henry on "As the World Turns." He and Vienna are among our favorite couples, and he deserved a nomination for the story of their courtship. Brian Kerwin really clicked with Erika Slezak on "One Life to Live," and his character Charlie's struggle with booze was well-played. We've got love for Daniel Cosgrove too, even though he didn't return to "Guiding Light" until mid-November last year!
But where's Bradford Anderson (Spinelli on "General Hospital"), arguably the breakout star of last year? Spinelli rules! Ted Shackelford showed us he was more than just Gary "Dallas" Ewing as William and Jeffrey on "The Young and the Restless." Jeffrey is so good at being nasty; we just love him!
And what about John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex from "One Life to Live")? This guy's got charisma and acting chops to spare. He submitted the scenes where Bo tells Rex he thinks of him as a son, which were SO good. HE'S good. We don't get it. Plus, remember Sebastian Roche (Jerry on "General Hospital") during the Metro Court crisis? Hello? He was so evil you could taste it!
What do you think of the Supporting Actor nominations?
