"General Hospital" fans knew this was coming as soon as they heard that Genie Francis was coming back to the show: Luke and Laura, together again. But they, along with Luke, are learning this week that it's not so easy to go home again. Particularly when you've been married to another woman for three years.
So Laura's mad at Luke -- that's understandable. But we can assume that will fade. The question, as we see it, is this: Is Luke really ready to give up his marriage to Tracy so that he can be with the love of his life? Let's weigh the possibilities.
The Case for Luke and Laura: Okay, for one thing: They're Luke and freaking Laura! Shorthand for "supercouple" on all of daytime TV! Elizabeth Taylor and weather machines and faked deaths aplenty! The idea of having both these characters on the show at the same time and NOT putting them together is almost perverse. Plus they've got two (...and a half) kids who aren't exactly averse to getting themselves into trouble, so it's not like they'll be able to avoid each other.
The Case for Luke and Tracy: Inexplicably and against all odds, the blackmail marriage of Luke Spencer and Tracy Quartermaine grew into something we really, really enjoyed. What started as extortion grew into animosity, which thawed into a weird platonic rivalry, out of which grew this bickering but incredibly close partnership that saw them stand fast for each other through illness and tragedy and embezzlement a whole lot of alcohol. Theirs wasn't an epic romance, but it's clear they've both grown to love each other.
Truthfully, we don't like Tracy's chances going up against the great love of Luke's life. But if we're being honest? We're kind of rooting for her. A little. It'd be a shame to never hear Luke address her as "Wife" anymore. (Though "Ex-Wife" would be pretty funny too.)
More importantly, who do YOU think Luke should and/or will end up choosing? Hit up the comments and let us know.
