Five-time Daytime Emmy winner David Canary -- who has played manipulative and controlling (but lovable) millionaire Adam Chandler on All My Children since 1983 -- has announced his retirement.
"My career on All My Children has given me more than words could ever convey, both professionally and personally. I have cherished each and every moment. I would like to thank all the fans who have tuned in throughout the years. Their love and support has meant the world to me. I truly feel that I will leave the show in great hands. The viewers will be happy with how Adam departs the canvas and I know that leaving JR (Jacob Young) as head of the Chandler household will continue to provide the show with many great stories to come. This is not the last you've seen of Adam Chandler. I will be back to check up on the Chandler Clan," David said.
David, who also played Adam's gentle twin Stuart, will air through April 2010. Expect to see a scandalous end to his marriage with Annie (Melissa Claire Egan) and a reunion with an ex-wife. Which one? Take a guess -- he's got six of them (that are alive, at least). Look for the aftermath of his departure to leave a fight for power within the Chandler household.
We wish David all the best!
How would YOU like to see Adam bid adieu to Pine Valley?

COME BACK DAVID, COME BACK!
OH NO! David Canary retiring ! OMG! it wont be the same.
Oh what a loss for AMC !! David Canary has been one of the greatest actors of all time and on AMC with doing double duty for so many years as Adam and his twin Stuart was just awesome !! He will be missed so very much and I for one hate to see him go...but, good luck David, Adam, and Stuart with whatever comes next.
I hope he reunites with Erica! That would be great!
I would love to see Adam leave with a bang. Reunite with Brooke and leave Annie flat broke. Shes a lying two timing psycho who needs to be put on her back...helpless. Besides she doesn't really want Adam she wants his money and his nephew.
I HAVE WATCHED HIM SINCE HE CAME ON THE SHOW! OFF AND ON FOR MANY YEARS! WAS NEVER A DULL MOMENT. THANK YOU FOR ALL THE YEARS OF ENTERTAINMENT. YOU WILL BE MISSED! ENJOY YOUR RETIREMENT!!
I have always been a fan ....I love Adam, and enjoy seeing what kind of problems He brings everyday. I wish Him the best in His retirement, but, can't imagine the story without Him. Good Luck and will be excited to see Him back at some point.

David, you will be missed so much!! I hope you exit AMC with the newly returned Julia Barr - Brooke and Adam are a class act and make a great couple!! Great chemistry and never dull!!
Congratulations on your retirement!
Wishing you and your family the best!
I agree that was a bad story line that I do not want to see return. They share relatives. Yeew!
