David Canary to Retire

David Canary has decided to retireFive-time Daytime Emmy winner David Canary -- who has played manipulative and controlling (but lovable) millionaire Adam Chandler on All My Children since 1983 -- has announced his retirement.

"My career on All My Children has given me more than words could ever convey, both professionally and personally. I have cherished each and every moment. I would like to thank all the fans who have tuned in throughout the years. Their love and support has meant the world to me. I truly feel that I will leave the show in great hands. The viewers will be happy with how Adam departs the canvas and I know that leaving JR (Jacob Young) as head of the Chandler household will continue to provide the show with many great stories to come. This is not the last you've seen of Adam Chandler. I will be back to check up on the Chandler Clan," David said.

David, who also played Adam's gentle twin Stuart, will air through April 2010. Expect to see a scandalous end to his marriage with Annie (Melissa Claire Egan) and a reunion with an ex-wife. Which one? Take a guess -- he's got six of them (that are alive, at least). Look for the aftermath of his departure to leave a fight for power within the Chandler household.

We wish David all the best!

How would YOU like to see Adam bid adieu to Pine Valley?

I'd like to see Adam return to his roots, as a cowboy. Cowboys have always been scoundrels, but independent and gentlemen to the core.

Why not contact Billy Crystal, and a couple of the cast members of "City Slickers", and he could visit Pine Valley, meet Adam, and talk him and one of his women into reopening the dude ranch that was closed down in City Slickers. Even in that role, Adam could stay in touch with the folks in Pine Valley, and they could even visit him on the ranch. Seems appropriate for a cowboy to end things by riding off into the sunset.

I am going to be so sorry to see David Canary leave. I have enjoyed him for so many years. I should've known when Stuart was cast out maybe he thought it would be less work but I guess not. I am really going to miss him. What to do, what shall I do. Everyone is leaving. Soon or maybe even already Erica is the last veteran left. Once again I'm gonna miss you Adam Chandler(David Canary).

I absolutley adore this man. Ever since Bonanza, Peyton Place, Another World... when he strolled into Pine Valley back in 1983, I was ecstatic! His talent is immeasurable, his fan loyalty, immense.
As time has moved on, and we have seen so many of the older generation pass away, with the ridiculous mistake of killing off Stewart, there was just one staple in the cast that held it all together... David Canary.Being realistic,
I knew when Julia came back on the canvas, it would all be bittersweet.
I have watched this show for 38 years, but once David and Julia leave Pine Valley, so will I.
Wherever you go, whatever you do, David , know you are valued, loved, and always appreciated for your talent and devotion to the art. I hope to see you on Broadway. God Bless.....

I do not want to see him leave. It will not be the same without him. He needs to just retire with Brooke in another city, like they did Ruth and Joe, and then he came come back and make special appearances.
