Five-time Daytime Emmy winner David Canary -- who has played manipulative and controlling (but lovable) millionaire Adam Chandler on All My Children since 1983 -- has announced his retirement.
"My career on All My Children has given me more than words could ever convey, both professionally and personally. I have cherished each and every moment. I would like to thank all the fans who have tuned in throughout the years. Their love and support has meant the world to me. I truly feel that I will leave the show in great hands. The viewers will be happy with how Adam departs the canvas and I know that leaving JR (Jacob Young) as head of the Chandler household will continue to provide the show with many great stories to come. This is not the last you've seen of Adam Chandler. I will be back to check up on the Chandler Clan," David said.
David, who also played Adam's gentle twin Stuart, will air through April 2010. Expect to see a scandalous end to his marriage with Annie (Melissa Claire Egan) and a reunion with an ex-wife. Which one? Take a guess -- he's got six of them (that are alive, at least). Look for the aftermath of his departure to leave a fight for power within the Chandler household.
We wish David all the best!
How would YOU like to see Adam bid adieu to Pine Valley?

Adam (David) will be missed. I love watching him, he is a great actor and has made the show for years. Have fun in retirement. Hope to see you now and again back on the show. You have made the story lines so great.
Hi Soap Fans
Mr. Canary you would truly be missed. I've been watching you ever since you were Candy. I don't know what AMC is going to do without you. Enjoy your retirement!!!
I Love, Love, Love, David Canary (Adam/Stewart Chandler). I am 59 yrs. old and remember my father watching Bonanza with Candy when I was a little girl. I've been watching him for the last 25 years. I cannot imagine the show without Mr. Canary. I love him and his character(s), not to mention how "Hot" he looks. I will really miss him and Stewart. He is by far one of the very BEST actors that our time has seen. A lot of this "new talent" is just not the same as it use to be. I wish him the very best in retirement. He deserves it. I don't believe "anyone" could replace him, but what about trying to recast his character.
Oh so sorry to see David go and i remember when he arrived at AMC. I will truly miss his character and the fiestiness he brought to the show. i surely hope they don't write off his character because Adam is a very intragal part of the show. AMC should consider the actor Ron Raines who played Alan Spaulding -on GL, he would be great.....and would bring the same type of intensity needed with all the characters....
I remember David Canary on Bonanza. I was a young child at the time. I liked Mr. Canary. When he joined All My Children I thought great. He wasn't as nice as Candy but I loved him anyway. Mr Canary is very much a great actor. I will miss him and Adam....
Mr. Canary1
You had brought to this show! some great work! I would like to Adam divorce that miserable Annie! and going searching for his son!and equal bonus shoot david and get away with it! I loved you on Bonnazza
Good luck to you David, I've been a fan since the Cartwright days!!! You're great and deserve some time off.
I too, want to put my two cents in about going to miss Adam, David. I've also have been watching AMC since the beginning and remember when he was first on when he was kidnapping (or something of that nature) Erica as his first scenes.
He became such a dynamic presence!! He will definitely be greatly missed. But I would rather see him leave the show with grace and granduer, not through death or destruction.
Please, we've had plently of that , enough to keep us all for awhile. so make this a beautiful memory.
Oh David.... (Adam/Stuart)... U are such the bad boy people just LOVE.... Handsome.... Powerful....Sexy..... Sooo sad to see u go... :-( ...but U deserve the retirement with ur family.... :-D ... I'm gona miss those blue eyes of yours... :-) ......Best wishes and ENJOY...!!!!!
I have watched AMC since the mid 1970's. I remember when Adam, and his sweet twin first came to PineValley. David , you have added so much to the show over the years. It is very sad to see you go. I wish you the best in your retirement!
AMC has had so many wonderful casts members leave over the years. It would be nice to see a show about the old characters, to remember Pheobe, Ruth Martin, Joe Martin, Palmer, Tom, Myrtle,Jenny, Estella, seems i could go on and on.. As I find myself getting older the newer characters do not seem as good as the old ones.
I will always watch AMC, my grandmother got me hooked on it as a small child. Here is to hoping for better story lines.
AMC has in the psat been a leader in dealing with social issues, and I hope that continues.
