David Canary to Retire

David Canary has decided to retireFive-time Daytime Emmy winner David Canary -- who has played manipulative and controlling (but lovable) millionaire Adam Chandler on All My Children since 1983 -- has announced his retirement.

"My career on All My Children has given me more than words could ever convey, both professionally and personally. I have cherished each and every moment. I would like to thank all the fans who have tuned in throughout the years. Their love and support has meant the world to me. I truly feel that I will leave the show in great hands. The viewers will be happy with how Adam departs the canvas and I know that leaving JR (Jacob Young) as head of the Chandler household will continue to provide the show with many great stories to come. This is not the last you've seen of Adam Chandler. I will be back to check up on the Chandler Clan," David said.

David, who also played Adam's gentle twin Stuart, will air through April 2010. Expect to see a scandalous end to his marriage with Annie (Melissa Claire Egan) and a reunion with an ex-wife. Which one? Take a guess -- he's got six of them (that are alive, at least). Look for the aftermath of his departure to leave a fight for power within the Chandler household.

We wish David all the best!

How would YOU like to see Adam bid adieu to Pine Valley?

David, sad to hear of your retirement, but am happy you shared your years, working on AMC, with your fans that care about you. I have watched AMC since nearly day 1, and selfishly wish you'd continue to spend many more years to come with the fans of Adam Chandler, millionaire, Father, and Palmer Courtland's nemesis! But I am sure you have many more things you want to do in your life and will have to just wait and see you whenever you get written into the script again. So many people have left AMC for many reasons lately. It would have been great if Brook stayed with you for at least this year on here. I believe that the show needs to have the experienced actors remain to spice up the story line as a whole. I do miss the days when May/December relationships were more common. ( showing my age, huh?) and loved when Tad had a relationship with Marion and her daughter, at the same time. Having mostly younger actors here will still have an audience, but folks my age who have watched this show for as long as I have, may turn to another channel. Anyway, I remember when you were on Bonanza! A very different character from the part of Adam/Stuart you played so well for so many years.... Best of luck to you as you continue on to other endeavors. And thanks for coming into my livingroom on AMC and being the bad Adam, who was changing his life to be more like his twin, Stuart. All the time I was a wife and a Mom, I was watching you be Adam/Stuart in my AMC family. Hoping you'll return soon!

Yes, I watched him on Bonanza as Candy, also saw him in person at a "theater in the round" performance of "I do I do". He is an absolutely marvelous actor, he will definately leave a void on this show with his retirement. Hats off to one of the best!!!

WOW! I am truly going to miss Mr. David Canary!! You were part of the heart and soul of AMC and it will not be the same without you. While I will miss your character...I truly wish you the best on your retirement....May you enjoy every day just as much as I enjoyed you every day on AMC...Good Luck and Best Wishes...You will truly be missed!

David, I enjoyed you on "Bonanza" and I have watched AMC from the start. I really enjoyed your relationship with Stuart. You made both parts so believable. Please go out "Adam" style, with a bang not a whimper. Would like to see you pop in once in a while and keep everybody on their toes. Please don't leave without making things right with JR. Adam would make sure it happened.

Best of luck in your retirement! Enjoy life for awhile. Make an"Adam" impression on the real world!

David or Adam as I like to call you. I have been watching All My Children, since the first episode, so I have long been an Adam hater and an Adam lover depending on what is was doing. I always loved Stewart as did everyone else, and you are such a good actor to be able to play both those roles so well. I can't imagine you not being on the show, but I wish you all the best in your retirement.

Sincerely
Kathy a true fan.

Well Sandy if you know David at all you would also know that he played the ranch hand Candy on Bonanza for a few years. David this is to you: You have brought me many years of enjoyment. All My Children will never be the same without you. I have never thought of "Erica" Susan Lucci as the matriarch that holds the show together....it is YOU! Hate to see you go.....may God Bless and Keep You and Yours for many years to come!!!
