Five-time Daytime Emmy winner David Canary -- who has played manipulative and controlling (but lovable) millionaire Adam Chandler on All My Children since 1983 -- has announced his retirement.
"My career on All My Children has given me more than words could ever convey, both professionally and personally. I have cherished each and every moment. I would like to thank all the fans who have tuned in throughout the years. Their love and support has meant the world to me. I truly feel that I will leave the show in great hands. The viewers will be happy with how Adam departs the canvas and I know that leaving JR (Jacob Young) as head of the Chandler household will continue to provide the show with many great stories to come. This is not the last you've seen of Adam Chandler. I will be back to check up on the Chandler Clan," David said.
David, who also played Adam's gentle twin Stuart, will air through April 2010. Expect to see a scandalous end to his marriage with Annie (Melissa Claire Egan) and a reunion with an ex-wife. Which one? Take a guess -- he's got six of them (that are alive, at least). Look for the aftermath of his departure to leave a fight for power within the Chandler household.
We wish David all the best!
How would YOU like to see Adam bid adieu to Pine Valley?

David Canary I have been a fan of your's since bonanza and will continue to be. I hope whatever endevors you are going up against will make your life be as wonderful as you are.
I really hate to see you go Pine Valley will not be the same without you.
Please make sure when you do return to stir things up your fans know about it because we love you! Good Luck
Boy who will run Pine Valley now! I hope that (Adam) David comes back to raise hell from time to time.
JR will never be able to be like his dad with that EVIl side I love to see in Adam.
My father would watch bonanza and I would be right there watching David.
Good Luck David you will be missed....
ps. i don't care how old you are your still hot!!!
i have been watching david since his days on bonanza.
you will be greatly missed.i hope you all the best in your retirement.
please enjoy the rest of your life and your family. for selfish
reasons. i hope to see you on tv again in the future.
love you david and best wishes.
david canary is without doubt one of the best actors on US televison. his ability to emote simply by flexing a facial muscle or raising an eyebrow at an opportune moment gives his portrayal of adam chandler immense believability and gave the ever humble, extremely genuine stuart chandler a validity that only a great actor could convey. i have admired his acting ability 4 decades. i will sorely miss his talent on AMC. nonetheless, i feel as though he is a friend. and, as such, i only wish the best 4 mr canary in his retirement. i am waiting with bated breath 4 his return appearances. blessings 2 u and yours...
OMG i cant believe hes going!! ive watched him my whole life im glad i know hes departing instead of it being a shock its going to make me cry i did when JR almost died last month i hate when long time characters go
i will miss you David (Adam/Stewart Chandler) Im 30yr female n have whached u when I was 10 yrs old. adam/Stewart) been apart of my life everr sence no body could ever replace him. I uesed to act like drink as well. i would like to see brooke marry adam
I also am going to miss Adam and would like to see him replaced one of the times he comes back to visit, then it wouldn't be such a shock to see someone new in his place. I think the show would take a big plunge without hi character.
I to have watched Mr Canary since he was on Bonanza. Over the years, watching him on AMC, I have wanted him to pay for a lot of the stuff he has done to no avail, but that boils down to his ability to act!!!! I loved him the most when he played Stuart, it kind of reminds me of my grandson who is autistic and how simplistic things seem. Good luck to you Mr Canary on your retirement.
Good luck with your retirement, David. Hope you use the spare time to write a book about your time filming Bonanza. I loved you all and you're the only one left to tell the stories. Hope you come back to Pine Valley often.
