Five-time Daytime Emmy winner David Canary -- who has played manipulative and controlling (but lovable) millionaire Adam Chandler on All My Children since 1983 -- has announced his retirement.
"My career on All My Children has given me more than words could ever convey, both professionally and personally. I have cherished each and every moment. I would like to thank all the fans who have tuned in throughout the years. Their love and support has meant the world to me. I truly feel that I will leave the show in great hands. The viewers will be happy with how Adam departs the canvas and I know that leaving JR (Jacob Young) as head of the Chandler household will continue to provide the show with many great stories to come. This is not the last you've seen of Adam Chandler. I will be back to check up on the Chandler Clan," David said.
David, who also played Adam's gentle twin Stuart, will air through April 2010. Expect to see a scandalous end to his marriage with Annie (Melissa Claire Egan) and a reunion with an ex-wife. Which one? Take a guess -- he's got six of them (that are alive, at least). Look for the aftermath of his departure to leave a fight for power within the Chandler household.
We wish David all the best!
How would YOU like to see Adam bid adieu to Pine Valley?

He said he would make visits, he didnt say how, they might kill him off and he comes back as a ghost to each of his kids when things go wrong, as far as his ex wife, he might reconnect with one of them before he dies....Im just saying they are leaving alot open with his interview...
I do hope the writers will find a way to exit Adam that doesn't involve the death of the character. I have been a fan of AMC for 37 years (since moving into the college dorm). One of the reasons I continue to watch is to occasionally see the characters I have come to love over the years re-enter the story line from time to time. Surely the writers can be creative enough to offer a plausible exit that would allow Adam to return for a visit in some other way than as a ghost. We love you David Canary!
David's an amazing actor and he will be missed. I hope that Adam and Brooke reunite and leave town together. I look forward to his return visits.
David Canary's retirement is a big loss for All My Children as Adam is such an integral part of the show. I will miss both the character and the great actor who portrays him. I just hope that :"Adam"will come back from time to time to check on his family.
Enjoy your retirement David,God Bless!
This show will never be the same with the departure of David Canary and others who "made this show" for all these years and were forced out by ABC on this stupid move to Los Angeles...With the exception of aging Erica, this show is a young person's show, however, Susan Lucci is hanging on by her fingernails...I'm very surprised the character of Opal wasn't written out when the show was moved...
Awwww, so long David. You will definately be missed.
Can't wait for that upcoming storyline!!!!!!

David you will definately be missed. I think Adam will catch Annie anbd Scott in bed with Scott (please rid us of Annie).
I think the Greenlee/Ryan ship has long sailed and Greenlee and David are good together.
yes david will be missed adam made amc and it is good to know he will come back from time to time and yes he is loved by many and if julia barr amc brook is returning just so adam can leave and she is not going to stay on the show after adam leaves then they should renew their love and leave together and i want david to know no one else could of ever played adam as good as he did and yes he will be greatly missed but i wish him the best in everything.
this is so sad.......I miss Stuart and now Adam!!! I do hope he runs off with Brooke and way from nasty Annie....good luck David and hope to see you soon!!! :)
I'm glad they"re not killing Adam & he'll be back for visits! I guess he's going to run off with Brooke! Everyone wouldn"t be leaving if they didn't move the show to California! Good luck David Canary!
