David Canary to Retire

David Canary has decided to retireFive-time Daytime Emmy winner David Canary -- who has played manipulative and controlling (but lovable) millionaire Adam Chandler on All My Children since 1983 -- has announced his retirement.

"My career on All My Children has given me more than words could ever convey, both professionally and personally. I have cherished each and every moment. I would like to thank all the fans who have tuned in throughout the years. Their love and support has meant the world to me. I truly feel that I will leave the show in great hands. The viewers will be happy with how Adam departs the canvas and I know that leaving JR (Jacob Young) as head of the Chandler household will continue to provide the show with many great stories to come. This is not the last you've seen of Adam Chandler. I will be back to check up on the Chandler Clan," David said.

David, who also played Adam's gentle twin Stuart, will air through April 2010. Expect to see a scandalous end to his marriage with Annie (Melissa Claire Egan) and a reunion with an ex-wife. Which one? Take a guess -- he's got six of them (that are alive, at least). Look for the aftermath of his departure to leave a fight for power within the Chandler household.

We wish David all the best!

How would YOU like to see Adam bid adieu to Pine Valley?

I'm a bundle of emotions this morning...sad, happy, disappointed and excited all at the same time. David Canery is if not the best actor in daytime, he's one of the best. As a fan of AMC for 24 years of my 32 years on this earth, this comes as a huge blow to me. I just want to say that I will miss David's talent and his ability to make me believe that there was actually an Adam and a Stuart. I hope that David enjoys his retirement and gets some much needed rest. I would make one last plea for him to stay but I know it wouldn't make a differance. You will be missed and I wish you the best!

Thank you, David Canary, for such great acting and dedication to your characters. Your characterizations of Adam and Stuart have brought great depth & drama to AMC through out the years! I wish you all the blessings and anticipated happiness of retirement. I will miss you.

My request to the Writers is to write-in Adam's retirement to coincide with David's retirement (have him divorce Annie & fire Scott; form a loving "bond" with JR, leave town but return every now and then to give JR moral support).

Mr. Canary,
Thanks for the memories.....
I remember you in Bonaza and when that recollection excited me when I discovered you on AMC. Sad.. to be honest, my first thought was to stop watchinng AMC, etc. What a wonderful impact to have as an actor.. to have your talent/gift so appreciated. You will be missed. I'm glad you're exiting healthy (in real life) and abundant blessngs to you in your retirement!

Now... I suppose the writers will build up Scott's character. He brings a strong balance to the story line.

David, you will truly be missed. You've played the roles that we want to hate, but love at the same time. I wish you well in your retirement, and I would love to see you sail away with Brooke!

This is a surprise, I love David Canary. I'm so old I remember him when he played on Bonanza! I've watched AMC since it's very first episode. Over the years I've loved watching "Adam" - the scoundrel you love to hate. Enjoy retirement David, you will be missed. :-)

I would like to see him go off with Brooke. David (Adam) will definitely be missed!
