Five-time Daytime Emmy winner David Canary -- who has played manipulative and controlling (but lovable) millionaire Adam Chandler on All My Children since 1983 -- has announced his retirement.
"My career on All My Children has given me more than words could ever convey, both professionally and personally. I have cherished each and every moment. I would like to thank all the fans who have tuned in throughout the years. Their love and support has meant the world to me. I truly feel that I will leave the show in great hands. The viewers will be happy with how Adam departs the canvas and I know that leaving JR (Jacob Young) as head of the Chandler household will continue to provide the show with many great stories to come. This is not the last you've seen of Adam Chandler. I will be back to check up on the Chandler Clan," David said.
David, who also played Adam's gentle twin Stuart, will air through April 2010. Expect to see a scandalous end to his marriage with Annie (Melissa Claire Egan) and a reunion with an ex-wife. Which one? Take a guess -- he's got six of them (that are alive, at least). Look for the aftermath of his departure to leave a fight for power within the Chandler household.
We wish David all the best!
How would YOU like to see Adam bid adieu to Pine Valley?

This is one character who cannot be recast,ever...David Canary will always be Adam Chandler...What a run its has been..We enjoyed the ride...
AMC definitely will not be the same without him!!! A huge part of this show will be gone, w/more inevitably to come....
Adam Chandler is one of a kind!!! I will miss, im going to savor evry moment he is still on...hhmmm i wonder who this ex wife is, he will be reuniting w/..Brooke i assume...does that mean they'll leave together too????
I am sad to see you go. I thought you were cute for an old man lol. I just wish you never got with annie she was no good for you.
Will miss David Canary as Adam Chandler he was a real asset to AMC. I have watched AMC since it first began. I figure with the return of Brooke English, Adam will leave with her. I never thought the combination of Adam and Annie was a good idea, she only wanted Adam for what he can do for her and of course the money.
hopefully they will put JR as the head of Chandler enterprises.
Good Luck Mr Canary on your retirement, hopefully you will come back periodically. You and your character will be missed.
Thank you Mr. Canary for giving me the right to have a love/hate relationship with you. I was sorry to see Stuart go and it will be no different with Adam. Being retire myself I can understand the the need to relax and have time to yourself. So please enjoy yourself. But before you go please give Annie the Boot and tell her good riddance to bad ruddish.
I'd like to see Adam insist on being a bone marrow donor and save JR's life. JR should be head of the business; kick Annie OUT!

David Canary is one of the best soap actors. AMC is loosing too many of the good ones in a short time. Maybe this move to LA was not a good idea. I have personally been adicited to the show since the beginning, and only Susan Lucci is left from the "oldies" to carry the show. Good Luck to David Canary on his retirement and good luck to AMC on continuing the show successfully.
Have loved hating Adam for years... Enjoy your retirement... You have earned it. Hope Skye comes back before you leave...
David Canary THANKS SO VERY MUCH !! for the Bonanza years and Adam/Stuart on AMC. I will miss you soooo much !
My 18 year old son was watching a DVR'd episode where Annie did a lap dance and almost killed Adam ! My son said "how can so many young women go for Adam, as old as he is ?!" I replied "Because he's ADAM CHANDLER ! that's why !! All the young women want Adam !!
I am happy that you will get to enjoy a much deserved retirement however. I'll be watching for your "occasional returns to Pine Valley !"
