David Canary to Retire

David Canary has decided to retireFive-time Daytime Emmy winner David Canary -- who has played manipulative and controlling (but lovable) millionaire Adam Chandler on All My Children since 1983 -- has announced his retirement.

"My career on All My Children has given me more than words could ever convey, both professionally and personally. I have cherished each and every moment. I would like to thank all the fans who have tuned in throughout the years. Their love and support has meant the world to me. I truly feel that I will leave the show in great hands. The viewers will be happy with how Adam departs the canvas and I know that leaving JR (Jacob Young) as head of the Chandler household will continue to provide the show with many great stories to come. This is not the last you've seen of Adam Chandler. I will be back to check up on the Chandler Clan," David said.

David, who also played Adam's gentle twin Stuart, will air through April 2010. Expect to see a scandalous end to his marriage with Annie (Melissa Claire Egan) and a reunion with an ex-wife. Which one? Take a guess -- he's got six of them (that are alive, at least). Look for the aftermath of his departure to leave a fight for power within the Chandler household.

We wish David all the best!

How would YOU like to see Adam bid adieu to Pine Valley?

AMC won't be the same without Adam. He's such a major part of the show. I wish him well on his retirement. Thank goodness they won't kill him off...

I am sorry to see David go but he deserves to retire. I will really miss him and I am glad that Brooke is coming back, she was his favorite wife. I really wish people would not be so mean to Annie, she has been through enough. I would like to see her get her daughter from Ryass and find some real happiness with Scott.

God bless David Canary. I've watched him for 27 years ( I've watched the show for 40 years) I'm hoping that David tell all of AMC cast that he needs time to himself, get on his plane and it crashes. No one knows if he lived or died.

I will really miss David Canary. He's one of the greats of daytime soaps. I'm hoping they will keep the Adam Chandler character though. The show needs him. I think a good replacement would be the actor who plays Mitch on OLTL. He's so powerfully evil and Adam-like. But if they kill Adam off, it should be Annie that does him in.

With Adam leaving who will be the next billionaire villain? I will miss David Canary but with his years of Bonanza as Candy and now AMC, he's put in plenty of years of being on the screen so I bid you bon voyage and hope to see you again in the not too distant future.

I am so disappointed that Adam is leaving!! I've always felt like we were so lucky that he was with us for so long, but how will we say goodbye?? Are you sure you really want to retire??

I hate to see Adam Chandler's character leave because he is one of the past character that made the show very interesting. The newer characters made me stop watching AMC a while ago. When Erica leaves, the show is a rap as far as I'm concerned.

Of all of Adam's wives Brooke was the one he loved the most so it makes sense she is the one he would leave with, I am really going to miss him latley its been the Erica and Ryass show and I can't stand either one of them anymore. I thought the new writers were supposed to make the show better but its actually worse get rid of the bully Ryass and the show can only get better

I will so miss watching adam . I would to to see jr and and scottie as equal partners and as a team and annie out of all the chandlers life for good , she does not belong as a chandler in any way shape or form , it has never worked and scottie needs to see her for the way she really is and hate what he see's. while we are at it hook scottie up with olivia.

I don't want Brooke and Adam to leave together because their wouldn't be a way for her to come back!
