David Canary to Retire

David Canary has decided to retireFive-time Daytime Emmy winner David Canary -- who has played manipulative and controlling (but lovable) millionaire Adam Chandler on All My Children since 1983 -- has announced his retirement.

"My career on All My Children has given me more than words could ever convey, both professionally and personally. I have cherished each and every moment. I would like to thank all the fans who have tuned in throughout the years. Their love and support has meant the world to me. I truly feel that I will leave the show in great hands. The viewers will be happy with how Adam departs the canvas and I know that leaving JR (Jacob Young) as head of the Chandler household will continue to provide the show with many great stories to come. This is not the last you've seen of Adam Chandler. I will be back to check up on the Chandler Clan," David said.

David, who also played Adam's gentle twin Stuart, will air through April 2010. Expect to see a scandalous end to his marriage with Annie (Melissa Claire Egan) and a reunion with an ex-wife. Which one? Take a guess -- he's got six of them (that are alive, at least). Look for the aftermath of his departure to leave a fight for power within the Chandler household.

We wish David all the best!

How would YOU like to see Adam bid adieu to Pine Valley?

I love David Canary, and I want him to stay. He's an intregal part of the show, and can't be replaced, even by JR. I wish he'd reconsider! I hope that when he goes, he takes Annie with him. I can't stand that character!

I hope the writers don't kill off Adam! Of course he could appear as a vision or a ghost, but I'd rather know that he is somewhere else but still alive. David Canary is still such a fine actor himself that he elevates the performances of other actors in his scenes. He's the only male on AMC that I have ever had a twinge of lust for. Not only is he a silver fox, but his intelligence shines through every line, no matter how dumb the dialogue writers are. As for the blood match for JR, why does it have to be a Chandler? Dixie had a brother and sister, Melanie and whatever-his-name-was. They could have children of their own, or even grandchildren!

It's going to be hard seeing Adam Chandler leave the show. He has given so much drama to the show. I think he should find Annie plotting to do some terrible thing to Colby or Jr and he will just go off the deep end and kick Annie out of the house and divorce papers will be put in her hands the very next day. This will devastate him terribly.

I now wonder if this is why Stuart "had to die". The writers would have had to explain why Stuart was leaving Pine Valley (even though we did not see him much !) also. I guess they figured out a way to get twice the bang for their buck ! Too bad everyone figured out the "mystery" behind the Murder prior to the "reveal" !!

I will miss Adam. He does some bad things but i like him. I think he will end up going back to brooke because he really loved her.

David, I will miss you soooooo much. I have been watching ?AMC since the early 80's, and I've always loved your character. Even when he did horrible things I just couldn't get enough of him. With Babe being written off and everybody treating Annie like she's the only one in Pine Valley with issues. Now that your leaving I will no longer be able to tune in to AMC, unless of course they bring Babe and Dixie back..alive and well. They did it with Jesse, I saw him in heaven with Gillian and they still found a way to bring him back. So God bless you.

I am also very sad to see Adam go, but I can't blame him. The show is so poorly written now that it has lost LOTS of viewers, and I lost count of how many times they had Adam faint when they were still trying to figure out who killed Stuart. When all the writers can come up for one of the greatest actors to do is to faint, I'd be ready to retire also. I cringe every time I watch this show now it is so awful/boring. I watch all the other soaps now...how can AMC have gone from the best to the worst!!?? Please get new writers before you lose all your viewers!!!

I am so sad to hear David Canary is retiring. I have been a fan of his all of my life starting with his character, Candy on Bonanza. He is a very talented actor. I will miss him.
I just love his character Adam. He is fearless!

Adam will greatly be missed. He is not evil, it's just that his love is misplaced. He thinks he is doing "things" to protect his children, but it always turns bad. He was always a joy to watch as Adam and Stuart. If Brooke is coming back for a short stint, then let her leave with Adam and divorce Annie. She has gotten away with too much and is never satisfied. I think she should go. Ryan is to wishy washy. Greenlee is too good for him even.
