The pre-nominations for the Daytime Emmy Awards were announced today, and amid the familiar names and standout performers short-listed (the official nominations will be announced later this spring), one citation stood out: Betty White as Ann Douglas on The Bold and the Beautiful, for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
Now, as B&B fans know, Betty resumed her recurring role as Stephanie Forrester's mother last November. Ann revealed she was dying of cancer, and with Stephanie and Pam by her side, she passed away.
Of course, they say dying is easy, but comedy's hard, and Betty's proven the latter throughout her 60+ year career. Recently, Betty's been all the rage, in all corners of pop culture. She co-starred in The Proposal with Sandra Bullock, she received a lifetime achievement award from the Screen Actors Guild, she even got tackled in a Super Bowl commercial for Snickers. Most recently, she's been the subject of a wildly popular Facebook petition to get her to host Saturday Night Live. So, for real, why not add Daytime Emmy Winner to this recent hot streak?
Betty's won six (!) Primetime Emmys already, so awards voters do love her (rightfully so). And if the SNL fans can move mountains in social media on her behalf, imagine what passionate soap fans could get done.
What do you think of Betty White's Daytime Emmy chances?
