Best of Decade: General Hospital

Luke Spencer, Laura Spencer, Anthony Geary, Genie Francis, General HospitalOh, how ten years can fly right by. As Daytime fans, we know this more than most. Time feels like it moves differently on the soaps, whether it's a child walking up the stairs at seven years old and walking back down a year later as a troublemaking teen, or how one fateful night can last a week and a half.

Check out this snapshot of where we were ten years ago on General Hospital: Brenda Barrett and Lucky Spencer were both "dead" (they'd both return, to great celebration, before long); Bobbie had just broken up with Jerry Jacks (!); Luke was hung up on Felicia Jones, of all people; Laura and Stefan Cassadine were busy trying to prove Helena had murdered Katherine Bell (pssst! She did!); Jax and Alexis were in the middle of a sham marriage to one another; Carly was in an unhappy marriage to A.J. Quartermaine but was just beginning a discreet little affair with one Sonny Corinthos; and brain-damaged mobster Jason was beginning to find comfort with grieving artist Elizabeth Webber.

Since then, it's been a nonstop roller-coaster ride for the characters on GH. We've assembled our most memorable moments -- heroes, villains, couples, tearjerking sadness, inspired comedy -- in this decade retrospective. We hope you enjoy it.

I love it ! I am so happy that Jason and Sam are back together, they are perfect for one another. Now, as for Nickolas he needs to move on and not with elizabeth, I'm not crazy about her. He needs someone like Sam (she belongs to "stonecold") but, someone like her. Get a new character.

I agree Callie that it would be nice to go back even further but somehow I don't think SoapNet will. They (and GH) like to think GH didn't exist before Sonny & Jason dominated the show. Remember the 45th anniversary 45 second montage? There was no Robert & Holly, Duke & Anna or Frisco & Felicia - couples that helped make GH the #1 soap. Nope. I highly doubt SoapNet would do a substantial run-down of GH through the years before Sonny & Jason dominated the show.

To me, the best of the decade was the Metro Court Hostage storyline. From start to finish it was fabulous. It set up so many different stories. It featured the whole cast whether they were inside the lobby or outside. It showcased and tied several storylines. From writing and production to acting, directing and editing that sweeps stunt was definitely something to hook viewers to their seats. I had only watched the show for two full years at the time and I must say, I have never been so impressed with a daytime show.

The main character being Jason and how all of the people within that hotel lobby effected him was a great tie. Writing for Spinelli was at it's best and the tie of Alan, Jason and the reveal that Elizabeth's baby was his really made this Liason fan so happy to witness the struggle Jason had.

The effects of the MC Hostage storyline carried well into late 2007 and I being only a viewer for half the decade would have to say that month long sweeps storyline was what solidified me as a General Hospital viewer. It was also what I kept having to remember as I suffered through late 2008 when the writing was atrocious.

I must admit that even though I don't have my favorite couple (Liason) the writing has improved 150% from last year at this time and my favorite characters are in great front burner storylines as the lead role.

Now if they could just keep up the momentum of incorporating the veteran characters like the Q's and Mac, etc...as well as utilizing the entire cast...GH will be number 1 in my book again.
