If there are two things we love here at SOAPnet.com, it's Nadine on "General Hospital" busting out down-home colloquialisms she got from her Aunt Raylene, and the 1980s comedy output of Shelley Long. And in a matter of weeks, those two great tastes will finally taste great together, because we will, at long last, get to see Aunt Raylene, and she's going to be played by "Saturday Night Live" alum, and co-star of Shelley Long's "Troop Beverly Hills," Mary Gross.
Mary's one of the more recognizable character actresses from the '80s, showing up in lady-centric movies like "Big Business," "Baby Boom," and "Feds." "Troop Beverly Hills" takes the cake, though. Shelley Long's hair was a shade of red that is so not found in nature, and all the little girls ended up becoming famous (Carla Gugino, Kellie Martin, Jenny Lewis). Anyway, this will be Mary's first foray into daytime.
So what's the scoop on Aunt Raylene's big reveal (which will be on the December 4th episode)? Well Nadine's gonna get called back to the family farm to Ohio, where Raylene has a special request for her. And if you're thinking it might end up involving Nadine's current hare-brained idea that she needs to marry Nikolas so he can get his green card, well ... you'll have to tune in and see. From the sound of it, Nadine could end up in a jar of pickles with no taste for brine!
... That was our first attempt at creating an Aunt Raylene saying of our very own. How'd we do?
Do you think Aunt Raylene will be more or less batty than her niece?
