Great news, Salemites: One of Days of our Lives's quirkiest characters, Calliope Jones, is returning! That's right -- actress Arleen Sorkin, who played Calliope from 1984 'til 1990 (with brief stints in 1992 and 2006), will be back this May for a short story arc, according to Soap Opera Digest.
"They just called me and asked if I wanted to do it!" Arleen told Digest. "I didn't really let it register, but now it's real! My dialogue? That I ever remembered lines is unbelievable! I emailed Leann [Hunley, who plays Anna DiMera] and said, 'You have to work with me. My brain is Teflon.'"
Arleen's Calliope was a fan favorite -- a fashion designer who later hosted a talk show. In 1985, Calliope married the equally peculiar Eugene Bradford (who once disappeared with the use of a time machine he'd built. Yes, really).
Since Days, Arleen has had a successful career as a voiceover actress -- mainly portraying Harley Quinn in various Batman-related animated series -- and is married to Frasier creator Christopher Lloyd.
What do you think brings Calliope back to Salem?

Welcome back Calliope! Days will be even more interesting.
I love and loved all the characters from `Days` even those we loved to hate. May the networks keep Days alive for us old-timers as well as for the new-comers. They already took `Another World` from us. Stop! already.
Awesome!! I so LOVED Calliope. One of the best characters in daytime, in my opinion. Great news!!!
