All My Children Week in Review: Week of 1/24/11

Performer of the week: Lindsay Hartley as Cara Castillo. So this week Cara confessed to Jake that, as a child, she had leukemia. She kept this from Jake when they were married because she didn't want him to look at her differently. On paper, this situation could come across as blasé when compared with some of the more high stakes (our outrageous) antics going on around Pine Valley, but Lindsay made Lindsay's vulnerability real and palpable. When the conversation led to how her own transience – a result of a childhood spend in hospitals – was opposite to the strong sense of roots that Jake had, you could tell her feelings for her ex were still alive and well. And, despite us loving some Jake and Amanda, we didn't hate her for it.

Best Moment: Tad saying good bye to Damon. Michael E. Knight was just awesome in this scene (okay, when it he not awesome?), but his last scene with his son – where he gave him a big hug and a kiss on the forehead – was simple, quiet and just so real.

Funniest Moment: Maybe it's more of a "WTH?" moment, but it's really funny that Randi is the face of a national company like Fusion….and still works as a administrator. Like, she probably makes enough modeling, right?

WTH? Moment: OK, we get why Greenlee doesn't want Ryan to know Madison is pregnant – it could screw up their "happily ever after"? But why doesn't Madison want Ryan to know? We get wanting to make a clean break to protect her heart and all that, but let's look at this logically. Ryan's a good guy, a good dad and would totally co-parent with her while respective her space. Being a single parent is tough – why deny yourself, let alone your child, the opportunity for a morally and fiscally responsible daddy?

Why We Love All My Children This Week: Annie's going totally off the deep end! Did you see her tear apart that rooms, take on Marissa and leave all those messages? It was so important! We can't wait to see what she does next – but what do you think that will be?

What were your highlights (and lowlights) of the week?

I only watched one episode this week, but I have to say, Melissa Claire Egan was tremendous as her crazy cracked the surface! I'm not much of an Annie fan in general, but there's no one who rocks the crazy like MCE. Her leaving is a big loss for AMC, in a time when the show can ill-afford another high-profile loss after already losing the ageless David Canary and the inimitable Thorsten Kaye.

I did try to watch the show again later in the week, but then Griffin's obnoxious self showed up at Fusion, acting all smug and smarmy and honestly, rather silly and childish, and I had to mute the show. Sad to say that every scene he's in with Kendall only makes the loss of Zach even more noticeable. In the bit I caught of that scene, I could only think about how Zach would have handled that same situation, and, sad to say, Griffin came up sorely lacking. I'm not sure that was the effect you were going for. I'm still hoping that AMC finds a way to bring back Zach (and Thorsten), as they are tremendously missed, and it's clearer by the day that the hole his loss has left in the show is not going to be filled by anyone currently on the canvas.

My WTH Moment: Reading your review of AMC for this week & seeing your description of Ryan Lavery:

" Ryan's a good guy, a good dad and would totally co-parent with her while respective her space."

"why deny yourself, let alone your child, the opportunity for a morally and fiscally responsible daddy"

Are you kidding me???? What show are you watching or is Brian Frons now dictating to Soapnet what to write about Ryan..

Ryan Lavery is not a good guy.....Nor is he a good dad....and as for co-parenting while giving his baby mama's space.....WTH

Morally Responsible.... In what universe are you living??? Ryan has NO morals...

Ryan is a controlling, using monster..... who uses his sperm donations as tools/weapons to control, interfer, blackmail thier mothers...

We've watched Ryan insinuate himself into Annie & Kendall's personal lives time & again... threatening to take away thier kids if they don't obey him, which he has....

Ryan doesn't give the mother any space..... He's in thier face until they obey him....

Madison is right to fear Ryan having any part in her babies life, because she will never have any peace... She will not be allowed to make decisions for herself or her child..

Ryan illegally obtained custody of Kendall uterus & medical decisions when she was pregnant with Spike, because she wouldn't obey him.... He took Spike away from Kendall in an attempt to get her to leave Zach, the love of her life, the "REAL" father of her son, just because he wanted to have someone to use....

Ryan has threatened time & again to take Spike from Kendall when she & Zach didn't inform Ryan of thier personal decisions that had nothing to do with Ryan...

Ryan puts GL above all else, including his kids... This is the same guy who allowed his kids to believe he was dying just because he wanted to save GL...

The same guy whose major concern was GL's safety...all the while "HISSON" was fighting for his life after GL kidnapped him...

Ryan dumped Emma off to Opal on X-Mas eve, right after he dumped her mother into Oakhaven, so that he & GL could do the nasty without interruptions...

Oh yeah, Morally responsible Ryan Lavery????? Are you kidding..... This is the guy how tried to hang Richie Novack.... The animal who used Spike as a tool to lure Kendall away from Zach so that he could assault, drug, & torture him.... . The same animal who just kidnapped a drugged David......

The same animal who has no problem chasing other mens wives, wrecking marriages, cheating.... He pursued Kendall for years, while she was married to Zach, and actually almost destroyed her marriage in an act of revenge... . He went after GL when she was married to Aidan....so morals & Ryan lavery should never be used in the same sentence...

Madison should be very afriad of Ryan finding out that she is pregnant... He will use her unborn child as a tool weapon to keep her under his control.....he will put GL above his kids & does......

Ryan Lavery is NOT a good guy or good father....

Ryan Lavery is a disease that is destroying PV.....I've prayed for years that the truth of SPike's paternity would come out so that he could be freed of the sick Lavery genes & Ryan's control..... Spike is donor #85485 kid.... Not Ryan's.....JMO

GL is a toxic mess......and Ryan is the monster that is helping GL eat the show...

One more thing... As far as fiscally responsible.... Sure he is... .he pays support for his kids with the money he stole from Zach & others.... What a nice thing to teach his kids...

I personally agree with claire2464 about the entire comment ---

I know you picked LH as your preformer of the week but I'm personally already sick of the HW's propping up Cara. Cara could leave tomorrow and not be missed.

Also how could you possibly choose Cara one heavy written scene over Annie? MCE all week was 10x the performer as LH.

I think most all of AMC viewers would choose MCE performance over LH's by a landslide.
