All My Children Week in Review: Week of 1/17/11

Funniest Moment: When Bianca questioned the burgeoning connection between Caleb and Erica, Lady Empress retorted back “Of course there is a connection! I can’t help it that men are attracted to me!” Oh, Erica.

WTH? Moment: What the heck is Erica smoking, leaning on Caleb so much and basically shutting Jack out? Not only is Jack smart and awesome, but he WANTS to help Erica, legally and emotionally. Why is Erica not accepting it – but willing to take it from Caleb?

Best Moment: David wakes up! Particularly because it happened like 4.5 seconds after Erica got off the hook for shooting him (even though she didn’t, Kendall did). Now that’s a cliffhanger.

Performer of the Week: We’re going to give this to Shannon Kane (Natalia) and JR Martinez (Brot). Their post-coital scenes, where Natalia freaked out because she thought Brot loved her and left her (he really just went to get breakfast) were sweet and Shannon, in particular, really laid Natalia’s emotions on the table. Plus, these two are so cute together in general they deserve a shout out.

Why We Love All My Children This Week: Because Ryan proposed to Greenlee! Which means that David’s going to be furious, and that the secret Madison is keeping is that much bigger. Basically, more drama, which we love. Also, we loved that Erica wears high heeled boots.

What were your highlights (and lowlights) of the week?

Caleb, totally disguist me after verbally abused Erica in that mountain. Took advantage, of her by forcing a kiss on her while she was having a melt down. Come to Pine Valley playing the victim, like Adam stole the love of his life. Now, going behind Jack back to try to steal his fiance. Erica jungling between protecting her daughter and don't involve her fiance in legal issue. Erica, has an abandonment issue, when Jack walk on her, that's when she move on with other man, but when he come back to her she always reunited with the love of her life. As, long Jack won't walk on her, Erica will be fully commited to her man Jackson Montgomery.

I'm asking the same question about Erica that SN is. Why is she doing this to her Jackson? These two are my favorite couple and I can't watch this show anymore because the writing is making too upset. The K/ M family was the answer to AMC's core family problem. We needed a replacement for the Tyler/Martin's and we had it with the K/M's I don't want Jerica with other people. I want them together facing challenges together.

Highlight of the week was the rerun from the past. It was great to watch the show when it was actually good.

Low light - Ryan insinuating himself into the investigation of Zach's plane crash. Of course we know why. It set up another gag worthy Rylee scene. Its just all kinds of wrong to have Rylee continue to share intimate moments at the sight of Zach's "death". Anything with Griffin is a low light. The character is nauseating and more than a little creepy. Even if I could accept Kendall with another man it would never be with this character. Kendall just lost her husband, her soulmate the only people she needs now are her family. He acts as though he knows her so well based on what Zach told him. Zach talked to him about his family? Really?? I'm not buying what AMC is selling.
AMC needs to bring Zach back stat! A story where Kendall slowly begins to believe that Zach could be alive and starts on a mission to find him would be exactly what AMC needs. Each scene in the Slater house just reinforces the pain of Zach/TK's absence.

AMC's core families are a mess. The Chandlers have no leader anymore, and it's laughable to think that JR and Scott are going to lead that family into the future. The Martins are barely ever seen unless it's Jake groping Amanda in the hospital corridor, and the Cortlandts are now Caleb and Asher, which "a family" do not make, not on a soap, especially when both of them are newbies. Erica and Jackson absolutely should have been the core family of this generation along with Jessie and Angie (who have basically no story), and Kendall and Zach should have been the up and coming next generation of that family, along with Bianca and, much as I don't care for the character, Greenlee, since she is Jack's daughter.

The show lacks stability at its core, and bringing in a new family and trying to make them front and center is a big mistake, not when they have core families in shambles. Further, there are no rootable couples (a soap staple if there ever was one) with actual stories: Jannie is done, Zach is" dead" (until AMC gets smart and brings TK back), Jerica is on the rocks, Frandi are invisible, Jamanda does little more than grope each other, and if there's anyone else, they're so forgettable I can't even remember who they are. Oh. Rylee. 'Nuf said.

AMC needs fans. They need viewers. Alienating those who are hanging on by destroying every last couple and every last family so they have no reason to tune in any longer is a terrible business strategy. I want AMC to stick around for many years and I want it to be a show that I love once again. Unfortunately the way they're going, it's hard to see how they're going to build and maintain any kind of fanbase for any of their couples/families. It's a shame.

Oops. Not sure why this double posted.

ITA Jonathan. It stinks what they are doing to Jerica. They are the quintisential romantic couple who have a family that could be the core group for years. Insted they hire bores to be Erica's new men, and they never cut it, and put Jack with losers like KWAK and Carmen. What a shame. I think AMC wants to be cancelled.

I am really Disappointed . I hate AMC now.I been watching AMC for a long time .I love watching Erica and Jack together. Break my heart when the two get Separated and Divorce. Then, Finally the two are back together . They are Still Magical When they are together ! Jack is the one for Erica !I have never loved a man with Erica before or since Jackson .I believe they were meant to be.
what is wrong with these writers . She needs to be with Jack .ENOUGH ALREADY !!!.... How many times will Erica going to hurts Jack . I don't want to see this again and again ! I'm sick and tired of the storyline . I been waiting for this two to remarry and stay that way .Now, what there doing to Erica and Jack . Trying to break the two again!!.. I'm sick and tired of this Triangles .Leave them alone!!They belong together ..

That's typical Erika---manipulative and always selfish---now she wants Caleb so she will go after him---She really does't care deeply about Jack otherwise she would've not done what she is doing to him---The writers know her character and what Erika is capable of ---

ITS with your WTH moment. I can't believe they are writing this garbage coming between Erica and Jack. Jack has alwaysa been the one person she trusted and now she trusts a goon she has known 10 minutes? Bullcookies. I also hate himn around KWAK. She is such a slimebucket and she took Miranda. Does Jack have memory problems? Does this show when it comes to their history?

I finally caught up on watching most of this week's shows. (I had to fast forward most of Rylee in bed. I can't stomach them and their slurpy kisses. Please, stick a fork in them and move on.) The main thing that I notice about AMC week after week is the absence of Zach Slater, especially every time we get a scene in the Slater house. I am not impressed with the two boys that keep showing up there, and they only make the absence of the man who is Kendall's soulmate that much more obvious. Chemistry can't be forced or manufactured, and it's painfully obvious that it's not happening here.

I did like Scott coming to Madison's rescue with Ryan, although I don't really see them as a couple. And it's kind of silly to have Scott roaming around the hospital doing data entry. I realize AMC maybe can't afford another set to give him an office (wouldn't he be in a cube, anyway?) but that's just dumb. Ricky expecting Kendall to swing a hammer with her heart condition? Also dumb.

Also, it's time for Erica to move on from stories where she's constantly falling for another man. After 22 years, if she can't commit to Jack, something's wrong. Either put them together or move them away from each other for good. Is there no story that can be told that doesn't involve someone falling in love with someone he/she's not married or engaged to? Or is ill-suited for?

I hope the writers will write a story where Kendall is able to investigate Zach's death. (And, of course, find him and bring him home.) Keeping her sick and in the dark is getting old. She doesn't need another protector; she's a strong, capable woman who should be written as one. I want to see her have a story where she's doing something and making decisions and taking action, and all without having to lean on some man to do it.
