Big news out of All My Children -- Lorraine Broderick has been named the new head writer. She'll be succeeding David Kreizman and Donna Swajeski, who are no longer with the show.
Lorraine has a long history with All My Children. She first joined the show in 1979, under the guidance of the show's creator, Agnes Nixon. In 1987, she was promoted to head writer, a post she served at for a few years. After some time away from AMC, she returned in 1995 and was head writer for two years (penning such stories as Erica's addiction to pills. Remember that?). In 2009, she returned to AMC as associated head writer.
Ms. Broderick's additional credits include head writing gigs at One Life to Live, As The World Turns, and Guiding Light. She's also served on the writing teams at Days of our Lives and Port Charles. She's a four-time Emmy award winner.
What sort of stories do you hope Lorraine writes?

I've been watching All My Children since I was a kid. I can't believe it's being cancelled in favor of another reality show - yet another show about eating, weight loss, etc. I don't revolve my life around food. Love, romance, family relationships - interesting stories that deal with real-life issues that matter to me are what I want to see. The Chew
(a title that's almost funny) won't last forty weeks, much less forty years. I hope the network loses an enormous amount of money on this. It's going to take a lot of enjoyment out of my day, not being able to relax in the evening while watching my favorite show.
I totally agree with you. I have been a fan for YEARS! I don't know what i am going to do without ALL MY CHILDREN. Will they be airing it on a different channel or canceling it all together? I'm sad now :(
I am sick to death that there taking All My Children off the air.I have been a fan since I was a teenager and now I am 70 years old and I'm not dead yet and am quite capleable of following a well written show.Oh you youngsters don't and can't handle real life.Agnest Nixton a tribute to you and thanks for a very up to date story in a world that can't handle reality. So many things have been brought to the real world through this soap opera. Many, many thanks Abc what a major mistake your making.CBS has got better shows anyway
I AGREE
i cannot believe they are cancelling my soaps.I don't know what I'm going to watch now but sure not what they are putting on.Come one cancel GH instead, mob scene is getting way old anyway.I hope soap net will keep them going COME ON
Just heard on our WLOS 13 Television News that All My children and One Life To Live has been canceled by ABC and will be replaced by a reality talk show and a cooking show. I think this whole thing STINKS.
All MY CHILDREN IS THE BEST RUNNING SOAP OPERA THERE IS. THEY HIT ON GREAT SUBJECTS FROM GAY AWARNESS TO DRUG ADDITION, AIDS, ALCOLICS. WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO CANCEL A SHOW THAT CAN TOUCH A LOT OF PEOPLE IN A LOT OF WAYS. I THINK THIS IS VERY UPSETTING TO HEAR THAT THIS WILL BE ENDING AND I AM SURE THAT LORRAINES CREATIVE WRITTING SKILLS HAVE MOVE TO COME. IF ABC DOES NOT WANT TO RUN ALL MY CHILDREN THEN I HOPE THE PROMOTERS FIND ANOTHER NETWORK. AND THE ACTORS COME ON THEY ARE GREAT. THINK ABOUT THIS ABC THIS WOULD BE THE WORSE CHOICE YOU CAN MAKE...... PUT IT ON AT NIGHT SO THE LONG TIME ALL MY CHILDREN FANS WILL HAVE SOMETHING TO WATCH ON TV. WE HAVE ENOUGH OF REALITY SHOWS AND IF SOMEONE WANTS TO SEE COOKING GET THE COOKING OR HEALTH CHANNEL.
VERY UPSET IN NORTH CAROLINA
LOS ANGELES -- Brian Frons, President ABC Daytime, has announced a new daytime programming strategy, canceling two of ABC's long-running daytime dramas/
After more than 40 years on the air, "All My Children" will end its run in late September of this year, and the premiere of a dynamic new show,
"The Chew," will immediately follow.
"One Life to Live" will bring its long run to a close in January 2012, when the new lifestyle show, "The Revolution," will premiere.
Thursday's announcement does not affect "General Hospital," which is currently the number two show in daytime television, and will continue to be part of ABC's daytime line up, along with "The View."
I really hope LB has something good in store for the underused actors and couples on the show!
I really want to see Frankie and Randi given some good character development, decent airtime and storyline options!
The way they have been treated is ridiculous! They should be promoted. They're a young, nice looking, loving couple!
I'm sick of the perception that minority characters can't be interesting together! The existence of Jesse and Angie proves, if the writers invest, minority pairings can be successful!
Please give Frankie and Randi a real chance to succeed!
Cornelius and Denise are good actors who deserve a real chance to work and shine! I really wish the writers or management would stop the favoritism and spread the wealth storyline-wise!
Frankie and Randi deserve the family, they were denied in '09! Jesse and Angie could be looking forward to being grandparents, while everyone mourns Baby Ellie! Jesse and Angie should be giving Frankie and Randi advice. There's NO REASON Frankie and Randi can't be on-camera more together and involved in interesting storylines!
The current 'baby switch' story is unnecessary! However, the saving grace is Darnell and Debbie's acting! Otherwise, this story would be a non-starter for me! However, since this story is currently on, I do want to see Frankie and Randi involved more. After all, they know what it's like to lose a baby. They also handed a baby back. They should be able to relate to Jesse and Angie's plight when the truth comes out.
I'm sick of ALL the Hubbards being used as props for newbies or victims in the writing! They're a proud family of survivors who stick together! I really hope LB restores them fully. The last few years have been trying to watch as various writing teams, either tried to toy with what we understand about them or make them look stupid or ineffectual to prop other characters!
I hope LB respects the history and character of each core family.
I've been an AMC viewer over twenty years. I grew up watching the Hubbards and Martins!
I really want to see both core families get some better writing and airtime!
I hope LB brings some heart and fairness back to the writing! Everything shouldn't be about "third-party" angst! There needs to be different types of stories and character experiences. The show needs to get back to basics of strong familes, good, believeable 'in' character friendships and well-defined villians! Over the last few years, I think some of the writers have showed a total distain for the AMC audience, especially, the longtime viewers like myself! I'm shocked at how the Hubbards and Martins have been handled. I mean. Newbie characters should be supporting them NOT the other way around!
