Big news out of All My Children -- Lorraine Broderick has been named the new head writer. She'll be succeeding David Kreizman and Donna Swajeski, who are no longer with the show.
Lorraine has a long history with All My Children. She first joined the show in 1979, under the guidance of the show's creator, Agnes Nixon. In 1987, she was promoted to head writer, a post she served at for a few years. After some time away from AMC, she returned in 1995 and was head writer for two years (penning such stories as Erica's addiction to pills. Remember that?). In 2009, she returned to AMC as associated head writer.
Ms. Broderick's additional credits include head writing gigs at One Life to Live, As The World Turns, and Guiding Light. She's also served on the writing teams at Days of our Lives and Port Charles. She's a four-time Emmy award winner.
What sort of stories do you hope Lorraine writes?

Great news that K&S are gone. Under their watch the show lacked imagination and real emotion. Hopefully Ms. Broderick can restore the show to focus more on the tried and true characters. Her first order of business should be to bring back Thorsten Kaye as Zach Slater. The show is ripe for a twist in the Ricky/Kendall/Griffin mess. The strong fierce Kendall that I love needs to re-emerge and focus on finding out exactly what happened to her husband leading to the discovery that Zach is alive. The show needs their bona fide supercouple, Zendall.
She should also work on bringing the Chandlers back to a place of real power on the show. That can only be accomplished by the return of David Canary, if only for a short time.
Tad and Cara a cute together and she is the only new face that is resonating with me at all. However Cara was brought on to cause angst for Jake and Amanda. That story should be developed.
Ms. Broderick has a daunting task ahead of her. She needs to concentrate on 1) the characters that have been the main stay of AMC for the last several years and 2.) bringing back uber popular actors such as Thorsten Kaye, David Canary, Julia Barr, etc. Give us back an AMC that we can recognize.
First, congratulations to Lorraine Broderick. AMC fans everywhere are pleased AMC is once again in the hands of someone who knows PV and its citizens.
The biggest change AMC needs is a return to an stories where character motivation trumps plot. For years now, we've seen stories where character motivation is not only unclear; it's nonexistent. Focus on core characters (Erica, Kendall, Tad) and families (The Kanes, Slaters, Chandlers and Hubbards) as we know them. JR and Colby need Adam's strength and 'interference.' Let him comeback and reclaim Chandler , with Brooke by his side. Wrap up the Jesse/Angie story. Tad is alive again. Bring back his (and the show's humor).
Please bring back Zach Slater, in the form of Thorsten Kaye, and Zendall back. The current canvas misses what the "ruggedly handsome" Casino owner brought to the table; despite attempts by others to fill those shoes. Give us the Kendall who was willing to die to say him twice before. Let their 'psychic' connection lead her to her 'presumed dead' husband. Let Kendall find him alive "against all odds." Always, only them.
Bring on newbies in the old fashioned way...slowly. Let them earn the fans' affections. Let the AMC characters and couple we love shine. Let newbies support them, rather than the other way around.
Respect the fans, our intelligence and memories. Many of us have traveled through decades with AMC. We remember who said and did what; and why. We remember why we love AMC. Please do the same.
Please stop focusing so much on newer characters like Caleb, Griffin and Cara (except when she's with Tad because they're great together). Have Kendall take charge of the investigation into Zach's "death" and bring him back home alive, and please do that soon. Find a way to wrap up Angie and Jesse's switched-baby story quickly so that it doesn't drag on for too long. This story is going to hurt and the sooner it ends, the better for everyone, including the fans. Use David Hayward more. Bring Adam and Brooke back from time to time to interact with JR and Erica. Use AMC's history more instead of focusing on the Castillos and making them the center of PV's universe. More character-driven stories instead of twists that come out of nowhere (Kendall shooting David? Rev. Ricky as a killer?). Thanks.
The best possible news at this point!
