Ed Fry played Larry McDermott, Alison's (Marnie Schulenberg) father, in the early '90s. Wonder what brings him back?

Just when Alison is gaining ground with Casey -- convincing him he should go back to school -- she's about to face a new hurdle: her dad. That's right; actor Ed Fry is returning to "As The World Turns" as Larry McDermott, Alison's doctor father, on May 25th.

For those with only faint memories of Larry, here's a refresher: Larry met and married Susan Stewart, 20 years his senior, in the early '90s. He didn't care that Susan couldn't have a baby, but Susan did -- so her first daughter Emily donated her own egg to be fertilized by Larry and implanted into Susan. So, yes, that means that Alison is technically her sister's daughter ...

Anyhoo, everything was swell until Larry -- who'd gotten kinda tyrannical after taking over as Chief of Staff at Memorial Hospital -- got a job offer in Chicago. Susan got a job there too; it fell through, however -- and though they tried to maintain a long-distance familial relationship, it never worked. Especially after Susan caught Larry cheating. He and Susan divorced, and he's been out of Alison's life since 1995.

According to SoapsInDepth.com, Ed will be on for at least a couple of episode -- with more being a "distinct possibility." Time will tell what actually brings Larry back to Oakdale ...
