since 2009, four shows have either been canceled or are on the chopping block..GL went in 2009, ATWT exactly a year later in 2010; AMC goes this September, followed by OLTL 'some time' in January 2012..as you may already know, the SOAPnet newsletter 'retires' next week, and Disney intends to replace SOAPnet with children's programming starting in January..all of these shows are long runners..ABC says GH has not been canceled, but i won't be surprised if its next..i don't recall the exact numbers, but i know GH had higher numbers the first year it was on the air than it does now!..so i don't think it's too far behind..it would be a nice idea for SOAPnet to continue these soaps, but since it seems that television is looking to get out of the soap biz altogether, having ABC's shows continue on SOAPnet will never happen..one the most logical assumptions is DOOL will be next, following GH, with it being NBC's only remaining sudser.
back in the good old days, we didn't have as much lead time when a show was about to be axed..nowadays, we're informed months in advance (in the case of ATWT, NINE; ditto for OLTL)..this makes it more difficult to continue watching - knowing what's 'about' to happen...
Honestly I've been out of the loop lately so forgive me if I'm missing some facts. ABC is cancelling AMC & OLTL. Now I'm hearing if Katie Couric agrees to do a show on ABC, then GH is going! I can understand ratings are not good during the day on ABC. Most people work during the day. I dvr OLTL & GH & watch it as soon as I can. But what I DON'T understand is why on earth can't all these soaps air on SOAPNET at night? Hello???? SOAPNET! Its in the name!!! SOAPNET was made for Soaps right? I don't get what the problem is! Just continue to put them on at night on SOAPNET. You can not tell me that ratings suck at night too! With all the Soap fans out there - there is just no way! I wish whoever is in charge would get their act together!
I am amazed that AMC was nominated. The writing for the past year has been terrible. OLTL is rarely dull and boring. Bree certainly deserved the nomination as well as Laura Wright. What happens now that this site will be gone? When does Disney bring on MORE cartoons in place of Soapnet.
WHY IS IT THAT OUT OF THE TEN BLOGS UNDER THIS ONLY ONE IS ABOUT THE SUBJECT OF SOAPS? dOESNT QVC HAVE A BLOG YOU CAN GET ON????
i don't understand. if all my children is nominated, then how come one life to live isn't nominated? if oltl was nominated and if it actually wins, then abc will probably let that soap opera remain on tv. same thing goes to amc. and if these soaps are disappearing on tv, then why have the emmy awards? that doesn't make any sense. why have the emmy awards if all of our soaps are gone off the air? and if the network is cancelling those soaps, then they should show them on another network or channel. like nbc or cbs then there's soap net. and if they decide to do that, then they might as well take gh too. what i don't understand is why brian frons is bringing 2 new shows on tv. why can't he just bring only 1 new show. and let that 1 new show air after gh and take oprah's hour, that way both amc and oltl don't have to go.
This should be the last year for the Daytime Emmy show. There are hardly any soaps on so it would be stupid! And who cares about the dumb talk shows! AMC & OLTL won't be on anymore & GH is going to be cancelled next year so they can give annoying Katie Couric a talk show! ABC stinks!
So happy for Alicia Minshew, Debbi Morgan, & Melissa Claire Egan.
cant wait...
Some of these performers shouldn't even be nominated...
Go Ricky Paul! Go Jonathon Jackson, go Melissa Claire, she better win! She makes being crazy a fashion statement! lol
